Lamborghini Gallardo Insights

If you guys are seriously going to buy a Gallardo AND have the cash ability to buy one, I would consider these cars:

a) 06 Gallardo "SE" models distinguishable by black roofs and mirrors
b) 08 Superleggera models

(stay away from 04's if possible and even 05 since those are way out of warranty)

I also "heard" the 6-speed manual is more reliable than the E-gear, not sure if there's any truth in that but that theory does apply to BMW's used. More parts = more chance of breakage when you look at all the SMG pump failures.

There are 3 key factors you have to remember when having exotics:

1) Much higher insurance cost, varies with each company ~ State Farm I was paying $1590 per 6 months on the Gallardo

2) Maintenance should be done on-time with authorized dealer and records kept if you ever want to sell it for a decent value later as future owners will ask you

3) Since you can't drive them everywhere plan to get a nice car cover and to have a safe place to store them when not in use with a battery tender.

I really don't get the Gallardo's sex appeal.

It has no ass. In other words. The tail is longer on the NSX. The Gallardo's ass is short and the engine doesn't look like it sits in the back.

All of the Murci guys that I have met with don't want anything to do with the Gallardo since it's an "entry-level-bottom-feeder Lambo. It doesn't have the Lambo doors. It doesn't have V12.

When I go to exotic car meets, no one really cares much about the entry level stuff like 360, 430 and Gallardos. To many they have become cheaper and more attainable for the masses when bought as an used car. The HP levels are so yesterday. Nothing a SOS blower NSX can't handle.

Why not just save the $$$ and go for a real Lambo?

Gallardo = Miata and S2000

Murci = NSX and FD

yeah the older Murcielagos are gettting down in price too. They're only about $40k more than a gallardo. "Only".. heh.

I prefer the Gallardo over the Murci. The gauges on the newer Gallardo are nicer and the Murci looks like a tank in comparison.

tank is fine, if that means muscles and intimidation factor, which the Gallardo has virtually none by Supercar standards.

Heck, I feel more intimidated seeing a Z06/ZR-1 since both cars looks like they were at the gym.

Gallardo looks like a late model Celica......

Murci has alot of blind spots. More expensive to change the clutch, because the engine needs to drop down. When you back up, you need to get out of the car to look around even with rear camera. Like the post above, it is like a tank.

I was very surprised to find out that is not the case. It must be the Gallardo and/or your specific insurance variables as a friend of mine in his 40's has a Ferrari 430 and he pays $67 a month for it with State Farm - sixty-seven dollars a month! His agent said one reason it is that low is because they know people with exotics don't drive them that much and are much more careful with where they drive them and what they do with them.

I'm familiar with some of the issues, but oh well. With the updated clutch it was worth the price to me.

If you don't mind me asking, what was the outcome of that situation w/ the shady dude and your Skyline $ ?

I won the judgement, and as I figured, collecting is the real issue. So basically I have an annuity out there that I'll never collect on. Luckily it follows him until he dies (since it was based on fraud a bankruptcy won't clear him of this obligation). Who knows, maybe I'll get something down the line.

My Toyota Celica just arrived. Yay!

how much does that 3-4 year maintenance run?

around 4 grand which is not to bad IMO. My Ferrari has been great and I am happy with the car and the costs of ownership. I see a 458 in my future.

LOL at the porn site. Roy is a straight shooter and I will buy all my exotics from him.

Why is everyone so against paying interest? With rates so low you would be crazy to tie up the cost of a 6 figure car by paying cash for it.

Congratulation on your G ride Deltron Zero. I think you made a good buy and I wish you many many happy miles down the road. No car is bullet prove so don't worry much about if things brake or up keeping stuff. You only live once and if the G put the big smile on your face then that's all is matter. Most people just can't part with their money and so they will keep on crying and more crying. In reality nothing really last forever (here today gone tomorrow)and don't believe that slapping an aftermarket exhaust on the NSX can sound better than a G, ask me how I know:rolleyes:

I agree with you. I borrowed the money for my NSX @ 5.9 %. I buy and sell cars part time so I would much rather tie up my cash in something that will make for than 6 %

I've never driven one, but I have ridden in nearly every version (Standard manual, E-Gear., Superleggera, and LP560 (e-gear)) on a racetrack with a Lambo test driver at the wheel. (If anyone makes it to the La Belle Machina D'Italia show/track days up in Pocono, PA, Lambo USA does charity rides.)

The performance is obviously superb, but what I was more impressed with was that the demo cars they used ran all day (8-hours straight, 3 hot-laps and then about 3-5 minutes on pit road changing passengers with maybe a 15 minute break to refill every couple of hours), and none of them, for 5 years now have had a mechanical issue. When I say "ran", I mean they were getting a proper pasting, shifting at redline, and an occasionall four-wheel drift in the infield.

Obviously, these cars are factory supported, and followed around by mechanics...but still. I've seen plenty of other fairly new-ish supercars break something, puke coolant, or have something prematurely wear out while not being driven near as hard. (One of those SSC Aero things melted it's bodywork off in the rear a couple of years ago...which improved it's looks slightly).

If I weren't so poor , I'd buy a properly cared-for used Gallardo and drive the thing daily.

I know this is 2 years later...but i also rode in the Gallardo Superleggera and LP560 around that same racetrack at Le Belle in 2008. I was also impressed with how well the Gallardo held up, they were driving them HARD, for the entire day and they were rock solid. Infact, some drivers were saying the Gallardo was outpreformaing the Murciealgo in handling and accel. The Murcielago isnt about numbers though, its about an experience i guess nobody really understands that, Murciealgo doesn't really feel at home doing hot laps on the racetrack as much as a Gallardo does i think.

LOL !!! Well whats the verdict ? How does it compare to the NSX ?

It's hard to compare a near-stock Gallardo to a modified NSX.

But after taking a quick trip to the gas station it did feel a little more civilized than I expected (except for the exhaust note). One thing I noticed immediately was the lack of visibility. You want to check your blind spots? Forget about it. You've got to rely entirely on your mirrors. They say the Murcielago is even worse - I couldn't even imagine that. Stomping on the gas is nice - power is very linear. Not like the E55 where you've got 500+ lbs of torque before 2k rpms.

I knew the attention factor would be greater in this, but I didn't think it would be this ridiculous.

I can't wait to really open her up!

Beautiful Gallardo - that is probably the deal of the century for one with a brand new clutch.

I really don't understand how anyone could pick a R8 over this car.

Well, you really have drank the kool aid now havn't you!? Ridiculous info contained therein. Where to start.....Gallardo=bottom feeder:confused: yea, the V10 is a real slouch and the exhaust note and performance...Yuk! The 430 is one of the finest if not the finest car Ferrari has ever produced and a 6 year old example with miles will still cost you $125-$140k (attainable by the masses:rolleyes:Puleeeze) which masses are those? All the ones with their homes being foreclosed on?? It's one thing to say you merely do not care for a specific car but to spew brand hate out for no real reason......I mean really, How many Murci guys do you know and how does owning a Murci make what "they" have to say about any other vehicle credible??? Granted, the cars you speak of are not NSX's or Pontiacs:rolleyes: but they are not "bottom feeders" either....

First of all, congratulations! Great find, beautiful car, you should have a big smile on your face! And then there are the sounds that car makes...

Second, the powerband sounds similar to the 430 - very linear powerband from stop to "X" speed. Do you feel the engine through the car? With the 430 you "feel" the engine vibrations right through the steering wheel into your hands.
