Miata Review

nice car,

my only complaint about the miata is that it looks a little bit girly. They didn't fix that with the new model. Image does count you know. Other than that, I think this car is absolutely perfect

We had a 1990 base Miata in Mariner Blue (no A/C, no radio, no power anything) that lasted 12 years and 160K miles w/o any significant issues. That car was replaced by a used 1996 Black Miata with the pop. equipment package that we only got rid of to buy our first S2000 and it went for more than 130K miles before it left the family. Both cars were an absolute blast to drive.

I couldn't give a rip about people saying they're girlie cars and all that nonsenese. I don't think that other than the few times I got stuck driving them in a bad rain storm that I ever got out of those cars not smiling and while the power isn't impressive on paper, you could actually use those cars on the street witout risking your life, your neighbors life or going to jail for the rest of time.

That's the thing that people miss about these cars. They're very well balanced and as much as I love my NSX, when can I really use it on public roads? Not very often.

With the Miata... every trip to the gas station was a blast.

Mazda had a hardtop Miata at a carshow a few years back. It was pretty cool. The car mags talked about the pluses to an already great car due to wieght red and more rigid chassis. I would want one if they produced it.

I remember a car magzine comparing the miata with a lamborgini and a pagani in terms of handaling and the Miata won out!!!!

of course, I do disagree with this magazine terribaly, but this just goes to show you how really good the Miata is.

I just can't get over the way my fiends started laughing at me when I told them I was going to buy it and showed them its picture with the top down. This is freaky, but this car makes me wish I was actually a girl.

I own an MX5. I use it as my daily driver. Yes I do get the girl comment here or there but I just remind who ever makes the comment that I get 41 MPG highway on 87. Or I remind people that girls actually ASK for a ride in my cute girly car ;)

For a daily driver its perfect, especially if you live in or commute into a city. The small size lets you park anywhere, and I do mean anywere(I wish I had some pics ;) ). For a sports car it has a lot of ground clearence. Anyway the tranmission is very short ratio and the gates are well defined. As for how it handles. I think that gets talked up a bit too much. For many people the miata is their first sports car and probably the lightest car they have ever driven. In my experiance the car just handles ok. I have owned many, many stock cars that out handle my MX5.

S'matter? Little 'ole car threatening your masculinity? lol

IF I had a maco body, I wouldn't be able to fit in it

this reminds me of a joke, I heard on Cartalk one time,

A guy wanted to buy a car that would attract as many girls as possible, click and clack recommended the Miata with a puppy along with it. But the guy asked, "If I get a girl to ride with me in the small miata with me and the puppy in it, where will she sit?"

They replied, "well, she'll have to sit next to you in the miata and you can though the puppy outside and make him run along"

I also own a Miata and I gotta tell you, it's a great driver for the $2K I paid for it. It has pulled a sustained .9G's on stock suspension and street tires. I figure I should be able to get that to 1.2-1.3G's with quite a bit of work and a surprisingly small amount of money. ;)
