Midnight_Raven's Build

I honestly don't know if Home Depot had these tools and it's not really a common tool to use either. I don't think they sell rivnuts. I"m just cheap so if I know of a way to do it cheaper I'll do it that way lol.

Either way mcmaster carr has a tool for about 30 dollars.

Just wanted to give an update on the status of the project.

I replaced both of my front turn signals with new units. One of the turn signals interior orange lens had broken loose and the other lens captive screw assembly broke. I also am going to add some more fiberglass to the front bumper to reinforce an area I had to sand down a lot. I also just ground down the pinch weld some more that is still making contact with the front wheels at full lock. I'm hoping this eliminates the rubbing completely. If not at least it should be even better.

I also took the NSX to 2 autocrosses and am waiting to take it to one more autox for May 28th. First one was in a very bumpy location and with bad tarmac. Although I did get to see first hand that the RE-11 are definitely less noisy and the extra width does not make turning more harder than before. Second event was at a location I'm more familiar with. Main takeaway from that event is that the car feels amazing now with the RE-11 in 255s and 305s sizes. When these tires loose grip, they do so in very gradual manner at least compared to the Z2SS. With that characteristic I felt more confident to push and know that I wouldn't lose control even if I went slightly over the limit. Very happy with the way the car performs now. I feel like I've improved my time by at least a second with the new setup but we'll see. Next event is with more familiar competitors which should give me a good gage on where I sit now, relative to the competition.

The last bit of news I've been waiting for a while now for my hood and duct to arrive but the deadline I gave myself to drop the car off is closing in. With that said, I'm going to drop the car off next week regardless if I have the hood or not. I'll drop the hood and wing off later since the color change will take a while either way (Hopefully they arrive by at least end of June).

How are the 305s at the rear? Any rubbing? I've got the same fenders as you and was looking for an very aggressive look. I haven't measured yet but I was hoping to go 19x11.5 in the rear.

No rubbing in the rear at all for me. Although I'm running 10.5" in the rear.

Also here are some updated pictures of how the project looks like as of today. First time working with fiberglass. It's actually not that bad. Learned something new today :).

FiberGlass added to sanded down section of bumper, side skirts, and gas cap cover

Hi guys, so I went to my third autox with the new setup. I ran against some people who I am familiar with. I ended up getting 2nd again in my class. The guy who usually would beat me by 1-2 second only beat me by .083 seconds today. Although it looks like he could of made it a .5sec difference if he didn't hit the one cones on two of his runs, while i just made the .083 difference on my last run. I was very happy with the way the car performed today and I could only imagine what my car is capable of if I ran the stickier RE-71R vs the more conservative RE-11 that I am running now. Either way this is probably the last autox I will do before I drop the car off at Joe's. In regards to the hood and duct. I don't know what to think anymore. DF gave us a tracking number last Tuesday and no update to the tracking number since. Still hasn't shipped. I'm starting to wonder if I should just ask for a refund or something.

Either way video of my fastest run this Sunday

that is the most nsx friendly auto-x I've seen... what car is your rival driving?

that is the most nsx friendly auto-x I've seen... what car is your rival driving?

Yeah it was pretty fast and open compared to the more tighter autoxs I've been to in the past. My rival was driving a Scion FRS and I think he is on RE-71Rs. Also we had a stock 1999 NSX there and that had a fastest time of 83.714s. Kind of crazy to think that is almost a 10 second difference. But also kind of shows you how bad NSX are for autox. Stock NSXs are set up way too soft. I actually took it out for a spin and it feels like a boat (leans so much) compared to my car lol. News cars with less power are able to perform better at a fraction of the price. Still it's fun to push the car and compete.

Update: I got two new tracking numbers one for the hood and one for the duct. Tracking numbers have activity so it means both items have finally shipped! Hood and duct should be here next week, so with that said I will just hold off on the drop off for one week. Would be a waste of time having to drive over a week later just to drop the hood off when I could just wait one week and do it all in one trip. A little aggravated it took this long to ship but I'm just glad it's on its way.

auto-x is great for teaching eyes up, fast hands, and spacial-awareness.

Well the DF hood and duct arrived Wednesday this week. I installed those on Thursday and I dropped off the car at Joe's today. I also removed most of the interior panels and passenger seat in an effort to make Joe's life easier while working on my car. Either way now all I can do is wait and let Joe work his magic. I guess this means this will be the last update for a while. Just excited that it's finally gotten to this point of the build.

Removed hood

Duct installed. I had to cut to slots in the bottom of the duct for it to work. Kind of strange that DF doesn't do this themselve since they cut two slots in the top of the duct for the same reason.

DF Hood installed. Hood has a bit of an arch to it relative to the fender. Joe mentions this is common with these types of hoods and he has a method to flatten it back into shape.

Are you doing anything with the fuel door? Frankly, I still don't know what to do with mine. The fiberglass is so thin there and also the latch is ridiculous. I just worry mine might snap after a few gas runs.

Yeah that slow NSX was mine. LOL... going to kill it tomorrow though.

Anthony is humble but he is an amazing driver. From the first day he started to autox he was beating guys with 5 years experience, and he is always a top 5 finish.

My stock 99 is about 8 seconds slower than my 05 car is my best guess. On an 90 second course. The autoX's we have around here are really big and really good. we have two old airports.

I added fiberglass to the inside and sanded away some from the outside to let it open up a little more than before. I probably should of kept going until I got it to open up a bit more but I'm able to put gas it so it's not too bad.

Hello everyone,

I know it's been a while, but I am not rushing Joe because I want this to come out right. He sent me some pictures yesterday that I thought I might as well share. They started blocking from the rear of the car to make the panels as perfect as possible and have been working there way up to the front. Looks like the front bumper is off and hood is being worked on so it seems most of the blocking is near completion. Joe is also adding some more custom brackets to reinforce panels in place. Also the mirror hole covers have been made and just need to be welded in and smoothed out. I'll update with more pictures as Joe sends them to me.

Hi I was just wondering, are the custom brackets really needed? My bodyshop hasn't advised me to get them, and they're already pretty picky I would think.

NSX-GT, the custom brackets were probably not 100% necessary, but I think any form of reinforcement especially with something as flimsy as fiberglass would only be a plus so I'm glad he is reinforcing it more.

Thanks! The NSX-R headliner uses some sort of black mesh fabric. It's reminds me of the NSX-R shift boot fabric but a bit more finer I think.

So I got some more pictures from Joe the past couple of days. Looks like they are making some nice progress.

Door mirror holes have been welded shut and smoothed over. Also I asked Joe to send me a picture of the Voltex Type 5 wing on the car once mounted. I have to say I'm really liking the look of the wing. Can't wait to see more. It's been a long summer without my NSX but definitely feel the end result will be worth it. :)

Type V looks very aggressive! I have the Type IV and am not satisfied with the 'high' stands Voltex provides, rtrying to have custom stands/mounts done.

I suggest you go check it out in person too, to see if you're satified with the height

PS. strangely, the trunk spoiler on my car came in black. Good choice on end plates too, I went with A. Most of the others I see are using B

I think my trunk spoiler was black as well. I believe Joe primed it before mounting it on the car.

Voltex makes extensions for a pretty decent price, I don't think you should waste time making custom ones unless you want it to be even higher. Evasive sells them for 147 USD. That's what I plan on ordering if I feel the wing sits too low.

Noted, yeah I tried to reach out to my parts guy here in Hong Kong to contact Voltex, but they couldn't get information on the extention/risers, maybe due to language barrier whatever, I couldn't get them. I had actually contacted Evasive before regarding Voltex, but they ignored my inquiries so fuk them =] . Their business lost!

Paint update

So I got some more updates. Joe's team has made some significant progress on my NSX this past week. Chassis and body panels have been painted. Car is now going to be reassembled.

Pictures Joe sent to me.
