It may already by posted elsewhere but according to the latest MT magazine the next NSX,
- Will be introduced in late 2006 as a 2007 (I doubt it)
- Will be based on the HSC concept car (possible but unlikely)
- Will be less than 3000 lbs.( I sure hope so)
- Will be V-10 producing around 400 hp ( I hope for significantly more)
- Will be 6 inches shorter, slightly lower, with a longer wheelbase and very similar interior volume
- They predict the price to be around $100K (plausible)
-They state their source as Acura itself. (Hmmm, who at Acura  would give them this info if Honda itself is so quiet)

Probably this is just their guesswork based on most of the info that is known already.

V10 w/ only 400hp? That'd be pathetic. They already have a 6 making 300 in the RL. It has to have 500+, preferably 600, to be "in the game" supercar-wise.

haha if it was V10 w/ only 400 hp, it would probably get 50 mpg LOL!!!

I think if you can keep the weight and price reasonable 400HP would be enough. I do not see Honda trying to top everyone in the HP wars. I would prefer to see it come in around $70-75 if that is the case, as $100K buyers will expect more.

haha actually
if the car had 400 hp and got 50 mpg, that would be a technological feat =)
haha i'd like to see a Gallardo get 50 mpg =)

not like most of you would care about that... but lol, it would be an engineering feat =)

I know people who don't know better care about pure hp numbers, as for me I'm looking for a 0-60 time of sub 4 seconds and a 1/4 mile time in the low 12's. 400hp 500hp, 800hp, doesn't matter. As long as it's fast, really fast. Really really fast and has a suspension, brakes and style to match.

I think it would be really cool to have a 2800lb car with a small, lightweight 10,000rpm 400HP 3L V10. Think CBR1000RR times 2.5:) I'm sure it's difficult technically, but it would be a way for Honda to show off their skills and put their own spin on this market segment. Everyone seems to think a V10 means big displacement, but it doesn't have to be.

I don't want a Torqueless V10 that I have to rev the hell out of to get any performance. That is no fun on the streets.

I think 400HP is a little weak for a V10 though.

I would rather see 4.5L V10, 450HP, 380+ TQ, redline 8500.

The following are FACTS from HONDA R&D GERMANY NSX V10 PROJECT 2001

· V10
· 4.0-litre, 40 valves
· 550bhp
· 255/35 ZR 18
· 285/35 ZR 20

That would rule. I don't understand why they need 3 years to come up with a car when this engine was being tested 4 years ago?

benefit of 5 valves/cylinder?

Would putting 5-valves per cylinder be of reasonable benefit in a V10 of small(er) displacement as in 4.0L or even 4.5L? I know Audi has been using 5-valves per cylinder as well as Ferrari for many years.

haha,

500,600HP?

i'd bet my firstborn on no 600, ii'd be very very surprised at 500 hp.

You do realize if it has 500+ horsepower, you're gonna see a $150,000+ pricetag... right?

you guys here worship a MR with 270-290 HP... and turn around and say 400 would not be enough? something doesnt make sense to me. The Elise is fast as shit at 190HP.

Power to weight ratio makes it fast. If this thing comes in at 2800 lbs and 420HP... noone will be complaining when they drive it. Especially if it's $90-100,000. It'll be a bargain.

but who knows... this stipulation is pretty funny. I mean, go back, and see how many people said "THIS IS HOW IT IS, I KNOW, I'M A PSYCHIC"... and so many people have been SOOO wrong so far. I"m up for waiting and seeing.

I just dont understand why Honda would make a V10 with a displacement of 4.0-litres?
The best displacement for a V10 would be for 5.0-litres.

Because if Honda ever develop a V8 it should have a displacement type of (4.0-litres).
It would seem silly that if Honda have a V10, it shares the same displacement with their rumoured V8.

Maybe that all didnt make sense, so ill try and clean that up a bit.

Now Honda has a 3.5-litre V6 which makes 300HP, which is a fact.

The V10 has a rumoured displacement of 4.0-litres making 550HP.

Now, if Honda one day decides to develop a V8 engine, what displacement category are they going to place it in, or how big will they make the engine? Considering the above rumour of the V10 being 4.0-litres, where will the V8 fit in? Cause it would be pretty stupid if the V8 had a BIGGER displacement than the V10. OR if they share the same displacement of 4.0-litres.

So this is my theory.

4.0-4.5-litre V8 400HP+

5.0-5.5-litre V10 550HP+

What do you guys think?

Very true!!!! I am coming from a custom single turbo 1994 Rx7. On low boost setting I was walking BPU supra's. And that's at about 320hp boosted and BPU Supra see 430hp. Power to weight always wins.

With a projected curb weight of 3000 lbs, and supercar handling, it only needs 400 hp. It is not being made to be a dragster, but an everymans Ferrari. If you want a dragster- get a Z06 Vette or a Viper. The NSX will have way more sophistication.. waaat more..!! Having said that, I am going to guess that it will be 3.5-4 liters (remember the F1 cars are 3.5 liters) and 420 hp. With the small and light piston size, it can achieve a higher redline with great reliability. Just my two cents worth.. :)

Currently I have a 997 Turbo deposit (1st one in line) but wow, after seeing the pics you guys posted and if there is any truth to the power of the new NSX, sign me up - heck all the benefits of Honda engineering at a price point that is a bargain to step into the super-car status role.

The 997 Turbo is an easy 140K+ and the Gallardo I spec'd out was 188k and some change!

Fingers crossed....and yellow better be a color choice...hehe

I have never heard of that motor.

3.5L and 420HP? Impressive. Where do we get one of those. :)

howabout a 8L V20 for 900bhp+

I'm guessing top-end complete motor rebuild after the race? (Nurburing24hrs)

Toda and their basket of goodies seems on par w/ that, ie. 3.5L, 400rwhp+... (unsure if that's w/ different engine-management and ITB's)

''The most widespread use of the V10 has been in Formula 1 racing, where the configuration was introduced by Honda and Renault before the 1989 season. The introduction of the 3 litre rule made the V10 seem the best compromise between the V8 and the V12.''
