plastic on "honda" door sill plates

My NSX has some sort of protective clear plastic over the "built by honda" silver plates on the door sills. Is this plastic ment to come off? It seems the ends are tucked under the plate and must be cut away with an exacto knife or something like that. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I had that on my NSX when I took delivery of it. Cutting the plastic thingy off was the first thing I did when I got home.
