Heading to Vegas for the weekend and looking for a recommendation for your favorite steak establishment. Pretty much want to keep it local to the strip (or downtown) as we dont have a car and really dont want to cab it half way across town. Been to many, but really want to check out a new place.

Thanks in advance.

Well having eaten at nearly every steakhouse several times (perks of my job) I can honestly say it is very, VERY, hit or miss as to the best steak house. Once you get to the upper tier joints, it's safe to say that you will get a good steak, but it's almost random as to when you will get a phenomenal steak. One time it could be the greatest steak you ever had, the next, meh not so great. So, as with everything else in Vegas, it’s a gamble. Having said that, here are a list of recommended steakhouses by me or others (keep in mind they are very pricey).

Ones I have eaten at and have had really good experiences:
Morton’s – Paradise and Flamingo
Wolfgang Puck’s Cut – Palazzo
Lawry’s – Great Prime Rib on Flamingo
Prime – Bellagio
Charlie Palmers – Four Seasons, top of Mandalay Bay
My current favorite steakhouse is T-Bones in the Red Rock Station Casino. It’s way off strip, but if you haven’t been to Red Rock, it’s worth a visit. Plus it would be a great chance for you to see what a real Local’s casino looks like.

Other’s that people have recommended and I have found just ok:
Del Frisco’s – Paradise and Flamingo
Nine’s Steakhouse - Palms
Delmonico – Venetian
Capital Grille – Fashion Show Mall

There are some newer ones that have opened up that I haven't been to yet, such as at the Wynn/Encore. Also if you are more budget minded I hear there are good steakhouses in some placed like Circus Circus and Golden Nugget, but the ambiance and quality might not be the same, though it might be a better value.

I can recommend Prime @ the Bellagio. I have dined there a few times and it has been great......... also, my son is an Asst Exec Chef there. Ask for Chef Steve and tell him his dad sent you.

I have been going to Vegas twice a year for the last 15 years on business and have been to a lot of Steak Houses over the years.

Nothing says more when a client asks to go back to a steakhouse that you have already taken them to.

This is by far a hidden jewl in Las Vegas and not many people know of it. I go everytime I visit and have never had a bad experience.

I suggest, Hugo's Cellar in the Four Queens hotel on Freemont St. It's deffinately not a dinning "with a view" as it is "underground" ... but the service and the food have never let me down.

I suggest the "Hot Rocks" for your appetizer.

Hope this helps

Here's my $.02

Morton's is OK - I think Ruth Chris's is far better.

The Range in Harrah's - I have never been disappointed with any of the food here.

The Steer Inn - Sahara just west of the Strip. Good Prime Rib.

-1 for Delmonico – Venetian. This was the worst, I wouldn't send my dog there. Food was poorly prepared. They don't know how to cook a steak medium rare. Steaks came out way over cooked. Portions are pretty small too. BTW - This is an Emeril Lagasse restaurant.

Sorry to have to quote myself, but I'm serious, this is the case. You'll hear a ton of suggestions and people saying this place is great and then you'll hear this place sucks. Even if everyone says it's great, you could go on an off night and it could suck so these suggestions won't get you very far.

My suggestion is that Vegas is hurting big time right now. See if you can negotiate a free dinner at a nice steakhouse. Because afterall, a free steak is the best tasting steak of them all.

I'll be sure to ask for him next time.....and tell him that dinner is on his dad

I didn't pay for the meal at Circus Circus so I don't know what it cost. The ambiance was excellent IMO. If you haven't hit that place and do let me know how it compairs to some of the other places you have tried.

Next time I am out there I would like to hit a place that you think is better.

While not in Vegas, I've always like Ted's of Beverly Hills.

It's a pretty classy place. Ted Bell was the first to bake a potato in aluminum foil as well as inventing the steak knife, having 2 forks at a dinner setting and the kids menu.

Oh, when I mean ambiance, I meant the rest of the hotel. The last time I was there, I lost my shins after a train of hyper rugrats plowed into them. When I go out for a refined dinner, I'm hoping my entrance into the joint brings the mean age down, not UP.

go to Joe's Stone Crab.. OMG the best place. It is in Ceasars Palace In the Mall area but that place is by far the BEst I have had out there, and I eat at alot of places out there.

Also if you like crab get the side of Crab legs 1 lbs. SOOOOOOOOOO Good.

My vote is for The Range..Number 2 vote is Lawry's.

I have NEVER had a bad steak at Ghallagers in the New York New York. My mouth drools just thinking about that place. Every bite of their steak is a bite of heaven...............

Not quite the same as a steakhouse but what about those Brazilian Steak Houses? I.E. Texas de Brazil, Fogo de Chao etc

I prefer these 10x over a regular steakhouse, too. I like variety. I am a steak fanatic, but eating one large piece of meat just isn't as fun or satisfying as trying many different cuts. In addition, you can get more of the parts you might like like the crust or the center section. Not to mention the awesome salad bars...
