6th gear problems..

so my 6th gear hasnt work in quite some time...guess on and off for past yr, but over all it just hasnt worked! and rare time i can actually get into 6th...its like fighting thru a brick wall!!...so I asked an nsx specialist in w.palm, he said when the clutch starts to go, slip..6th gear is disabled...well took my car to Lary at Acura of Augusta, GA told him that and he's never heard of that! has anyone ever heard or this, not being able to get into 6th..and have any idea why or what causes that? thanks guys!!

There is no connection between the R lockout and sixth gear. The lockout pin engages under a little tab on the reverse shifter guide and cannot effect any forward gears in any way. Your second tech was right- sixth gear is not affected by a slipping clutch any more than any other any other forward gears: in fact if you use as intended, it is probabally affected less.

Sounds to me like the hub or slider is damaged, or possibally the synchro. Most likely though is H/S assy.

sweet...so after i had my car at dealer for 3 days..did major service, i just rem why my 6th failed!! last summer i had my viper alarm installed, remote start and all the goodies...that was the last day it worked! some how a wire was tripped, im thinking the wire thats connected from tach that disabled 6 gear...i told my tech that and he said yupp...thats y! we had the talk last sum but we both 4got, and now he's on vac and im heading home! so still no 6th gear...but new clutch/fly, wpump,tbelt and valves...

should have bought a 3.0L then you wouldn't have to deal with this 6th gear problem :tongue: :biggrin:

Wow, your posts are really difficult to read. If you want people to understand you, you should spell out all your words. Otherwise t snds lk ths crp.

Please keep in mind that there are also (quite a few, including me) people on this board whose 1st language isn't english (sometimes not even the 3rd), therefor we have sometimes problems even with the correct language and are completely lost when abbreviations occur that are not common sense. You may use these anyhow if you don't lay any worth on the comments or help of "alien" users.

There is no external system electical or mechanical that prevents the use of 6th gear, so whoever thought it was related to the alarm was smokin crack as NSXTech said there is something wrong inside the transmission case and needs to be inspected and repaired...good luck.JZ
