Was reading the owners manual and just found out the NSX has a MAX weight capacity of only 400 lbs!

They said if driver is 150 lbs, pass. is 150 lbs as an example then you can only carry 100 lbs of cargo.

I'm sure there are US owners that are well over 200 lbs and add another passenger that is over 200 lbs is easily possible.

Has anyone ever tested or exceeded the 400 lb limit? Guess I'd better cut back on my chocolate chip cookies to give myself a better chance to carry more cargo...hehe :)

I found it really doesn't handle in cornering with my brother in-law and myself in the car. We tip the scale together at over 435lbs.

I weigh 200lbs, when ever I have a passenger greater than say.... 150lbs, I can really feel it bog the car on acceleration and increase braking effort dramatically. In other words, when I haul around one of the buddies, it sucks. Then when I haul around one of the ladies I'm out with, it does JUST fine

What is more astonishing is that the NSX must have been designed as a LHD. RHD cars have a much more unequal weight distribution between left and right WITH a drive in.

My thoughts exactly - I know most cars have a weight limit but 400 is a bit on the slim side...haha

I have never paid attention to weight limits before (probably cuz I rarely read the owners' manual) but I wonder what my m3 and s2000 have. 2 seaters are a bit easy since just add 2 people but in my m3 I've taken as many as 5 people in the car once! 2 guys and 4 skinny ladies....:)

The only way to test this "maximum capacity" is to actually crash the car.

Those limits given are for baseline NHTSA crash tests. The numbers were developed in the early 60's when average American wasn't obese.

For good measure the NSX's passenger area is much narrower than the driver side....keeping the drivers priorities straight by placing a comfort gate based on size ;)

I am 6'1 and weigh 230 lbs. and my 16 year old son weighs 180.

We are always in it at the same time.... with ME driving!

No issues.

I recently was on a road trip. Im 240lbs and my passenger was 235lbs. We had probably 100lbs of cargo in the trunk and under the rear glass because it would not fit in the trunk (coats and stuff) and then I have an aftermarket stereo that adds another 35lbs to the number

So I would assume that we were pushing the 575- 600lb mark with out any issues. The car still felt quick handled very well as we had a couple blasts through some mt roads.

But if we were 200lbs over limit, the car did not become upset at all with us, it did fine.

I had 175+105+225+185+225+150 (1065lbs) in my four dour integra a few weeks before I sold it. Apparently that was a little too much weight, my rear wheels were tucked a solid inch under the rear quarter panel (stock decade old+ suspension).

My brakes didn't work so great either. Now my LS could take a full car load and wouldn't even feel it.

Anyone know if exceding the oem gross vehicle wght can void warranty,or could give insurance co. options in determining payouts in the event of a shunt.???

A friend of mine and a passenger went on a cross-country road trip in his NSX, and with luggage, they were probably slightly over the weight limit. They found that their tires wore out MUCH faster than they normally do; in fact, they wore out and had to buy new tires in the middle of their trip.
