Carbon intake lip idea

I have a great idea for a part I think will look great (and be of possible cooling benefit) on the NSX. I saw something similar on a race car once, and am hoping to get some input from you guys, get this thing designed, and built. I hope whoever steals this idea and makes it takes into consideration I am handing it over for free.

The idea is for a "lip surround" on the main openning of the front bumper. I think especially on an 02+ car this would look great. A carbon lip shaped to fit inside the front bumper openning, that protrudes from the bumper perhaps an inch or two. It can screw into the openning on the front bumper. I have looked at this and it is fairly flat.

Imagine something like this, the green section:

But instead of being paint, it be a thick carbon part thatgets inserted in the openning, and sticks out just a bit to direct air into the openning. I drew it around the openning but the part needs to just fit INSIDE the openning.

I am not sure if it needs to jet out more up top or down low to look good, this is where we need someone with photoshop skills to help.

Imagine the photo below... where the red is a CF part that inserts and jets out a bit. This really accentuates the openning and makes the car look very aggressive.

What do you guys think?

I think that should only be done on Porsches. Does the phrase "Putting lipstick on a pig" mean anything to you?

Dave go put those manly KWs on your car and stop trying to dress your car up like a doll.

PS: It's an English thing and originates from this....

You are banned from the first group buy of this awesome part with that comment.

I said carbon not red or green or pink. I saw it on a Lambo at an HPDE. You wouldn't think it was so terrible if you had seen it. It looked hot!

Don't you realize that Honda spent countless hours in the windtunnel to slightly alter the aerodynamics enough to give the car an 8mph boost in top speed on the 02+ cars? Someone should take the car away from you and give you a brain transplant.

it would be like those plastic collars you put around your dogs neck to stop them from scratching their ears after they come back from the vet.

LOL

maybe if we saw what kinda shape your talking about on the front and you only showed the 02+ front bumper? what about the pre 02 NSX which are more of. bigger market.

Sigh you know you have mod sickness when you start thinking up parts to buy:biggrin:

^ very funny... tst...tst... at least admit that Turbo's idea is a good one :tongue::tongue:

and how about extend it to the side holes, and remove those fins inside it??

as it would cover central hole, side holes and the OEM vertical connections between valence and upper bumper (between each side and central holes)...

an entire part that would slide in from the front and cover the 3 holes and the fins would actually be the covered OEM vertical fins

i say this, because the cars that have that idea built in, don't usually have side holes as the NSX has.

can you photoshop this??

i also think that it can't be too thick too thick wither in width and in the depth (sticking out of the bumper, into the front) as it would look like huge silicone lips in a skinny woman

like this:

NSXmakeover1.JPG

only did one side, and my photoshop advanced skillzs are somewhat inexistent

but you get the idea... it could had a cutout for the hook and a little cf cap to stick to the OEM hook cover so everything would be flush and OEMish...

ohhh... and it could be potruding out like 1cm, 1,5cm the most, to give it some dimension but not too much

colslaw87: could you do a clean edit of my idea?! :p:p

EDIT:

sorry.... i uploaded the unmodified photo... now it's my photoshoped one

Ok lets give dave some credit....let's wait and see it on a nsx first before people start stoning him.

Then you can paddle his butt if you don't like it.

something like this ?

That's for a 370Z correct?

Just a thought:

The bumper on the NSX doesn't have cut lines vertically that would support such a piece. To connect the center opening plus the two smaller side openings would look funky. If there was a definitive cut line that a CF piece could fit into, it might work better.

I'm not sure how this would add a performance benefit. The piece I Photoshoped couldn't go back that far anways. There's bumper and frame supports behind there. I wonder how it would look with an NSX-R vented hood. It could possibly funnel air through the nose and out the hood vent giving added downforce stability at higher speeds.

Who knows
