Could you run an aftercooler on a ctsc without EMS?

In theory it should work right? Since the motor will sense the lower intake temps and not pull as much timing, similar to driving in cold weather vs summer weather. Is there something I'm missing?
Obviously EMS would maximize the efficiency.
