Favorite Movie of ALL TIME!

Where are the old timers responses? I would like to know what movies they watch. Maybe I missed something good before I was born?

OK, OK as requested  here's one of the old timers checking in on this topic... which I expanded a bit, as just picking one overall is nearly impossible

My all time favorites in several catagories:

Drama: To Kill a Mockingbird. One of the greatest movies of all time!! Pulitzer Prize winning novel; beautifully filmed in black & white; Academy Award winning performance by the great Gregory Peck; and the kids stole the show!! Should have won Best Picture... but, they gave that sentimentally to a lousy John Wayne file... True Grit

Gangster: The Godfather (I and II). Exceptional storytelling; many, many riveting scenes; great actors; beautifully filmed.

Mystery: The Usual Suspects. Award winning film; great script; great thriller; great cast and captivating performance by Kevin Spacey

Western: Dances with Wolves. Spectactular Award winning film... touching, timeless, and beautiful. Takes you back and puts you in that time. Kevin Costner at his best in this epic.

Comedy: Oh Brother, Where Art Thou Highly aclaimed and deservidly so; Best of the Coen brothers films; Exceptional sound track; outstanding cast... Clooney is unbelievable; film is witty, intellegent, and very funny... the more you watch it the more you laugh... and some of the lines are absolutely classic!!

Sport: Hoosiers. Inspiring, authentic, and nostalgic film; critically aclaimed; great and beautifully told story; terrific cast and a great performance by Gene Hackman

Fantasy: Field of Dreams Wonderful, magical film; will make you laugh, cry, and get lost in it's magic; Critically acclaimed... should have been Best Picture in my opinion; great cast and again Costner is at his best. If you love baseball and ever get a chance to go to Dyerville, Iowa to see the "field of dreams".. do so, it's a religious experience! "Is this heaven? No, it's Iowa!!"

Sci FI: Alien Frightening both psychologically as welll as visually; not over-the-top like most Sci-fi films, just very scarey and very well scripted and casted. Forget the sequels... this is the real deal:eek:

Horror: The Exorcist. Very Intense, shocking and terrifying film; scared my wife right out of the theater in 1973 and she hasn't been able to watch the rest of it since then!!; some have called it the scariest movie ever made... maybe!!; excellent cast; an absolute classic!!

Epic: Saving Private Ryan. Exceptional cast; exceptional story; one of the best film of all time for me: very intense in many scenes and very touching in others; poignant messages; will show you the hell of war while keeping you glued to your seat. Perhaps not a good as Band of Brothers in some respects, but still extremely powerful and was at the theater vesus on TV via HBO.

That my $.02

that is your opinion...which is whack!!!

EVERYONE I've talked to about it say it is probably Ferrel's funniest movie...

I think you might need to watch it again...

FYI, Ridley Scott is going to direct a prequel to Alien

It WAS funny, but certainly not his best work. I watched it with my (very conservative) parents and they laughed their butts off

Better off dead.

"I want my 2 dollars"!!!

<img src=http://www.xenafan.com/movies/bod/images/race03.jpg>

Id have to say that is certainly in my top 10.

I bet there are more than fifteen movies on here that make my top list, but I have not seen the The Crow mentioned yet.

Not in my top ten (Top twenty for sure though) , but has one of the best lines ever in any movie:

"You move and you're dead"

"And I say I'm dead and I move"

Dogtown and Z-Boys. That was my youth. Had an original Zephyr skateboard as well.

It's hard to choose favorites, but here's some I really like........

Gun movie : For a Few Dollars More
Comedy : Used Cars, Ace Ventura, Grosse Point Blank
Drama : Fight Club
Martial Arts : Dynamo (Bruce Li, not Lee)
Gangsta : Baby Boy
Dialogue : Interview (I like Lofts, and I like Sienna Miller)

This may sound stupid of me: but what makes For a Few Dollars More better than A Fistful of Dollars. Just curious.

Not a stupid question because A Fistful of Dollars(or Maybe the Good,The Bad, and the Ugly) is considered the most popular of the triligy.
I guess I like the way Clint and Lee Van Clief play off each other....Also, the bad guy is so unlikeable, that it makes the ending very enjoyable when Clint gives him a taste of his own medicine w/ the pocketwatch countdown.....
Clint really is amazing when you consider that he's been a top star for almost 45 years....What a run !!!

P.S. In my list, I surprised myself because I'm probably the biggest James Bond fan on Prime, but I didn't list any Bond movies.............
Maybe they're such a strong aspect of my entertainment life, that I don't consider them just "movies", but rather "events",

I think the youngens should rent "The dirty dozen"

Watched the Deer Hunter last night with Robert De Niro, very, very good movie. Still my one of my all time favorites is the Hunt for Red October.

In 1979, I was young, solo, and naive and starting my next adventure (Army Airborne training) AND I wanted some relief from the Summer heat in Columbus Ga...so I ducked into the air conditioned theater without looking (or caring) about what was showing. That day, they were showing the DEER HUNTER and I realized that I was in WAY over my head.
