Picked up a 55w 6000k hid kit from DDM for a great price and took it to my buddy Nicks(applied motorsports)and got some help installing it...first one took like an hour since we tried to do it with the headlamp unit on the car, but had trouble getting dust caps back on, so just took it whole thing off and made it easy..the second one was easy and took like 20 minutes since we knew what to do and not to do...I recommend having a buddy help if doing one yourself makes it easier...came out looking great!!!

Drill 1" hole on slanted side of dust cap and you are good to go...

Save yourself some time and just take headlight unit out.

The units were all black, so they blended in nicely on my black car..

Looks great!!!

Best $43 bucks I spent in awhile:smile:
Now I just got to hunt down some LEDs for the running/parking lights and I'm good...

Will post update when I do...

Nice!

I'm loving my HID kit I got from whiteNSXs on here.

yeah but his HID kit cost 40 bucks not 999.99 LOL and its the same thing.

but to take the light out takes longer and overkill.
you can change the bulb without taking the light out.
that's how Honda designed it.
put in new HID bulb drill hole in cover IF you want to use the cover but its not needed I have been driving with mine off for 4 years.

but 6000K is def the best for color and line of sight distance this is what I have on my 92

Yeah, trying to get the dust cap back on was a pita due to the extra wires/clip that have to fit in there with not a lot of room to maneuver your hand..it was much easier just undoing the four bolts and taking the whole thing out...wanted to have the dust covers on...I drove it last night though some twisties and loved them...very impressed for a $39.95 kit with 2 year warrantee ...

Just got done finishing it off with some LEDs for the running light and put on an LED strip (that I bought a year ago for my is250 but never put on) on the bottom....looks good, can't wait to see what it looks like at night. Will post some pics.

Sweet! Looks great

Thanks:biggrin:

Looks good.
Have had my DDM 55w HID kit now for about 5 years and seems to be going strong. Did the same as you and drilled the dust cap. The only other thing I did was add a wiring harness to pull current directy from the battery, since I was worried about wiring issues in the future with such a cheap kit.

For the corner lights I bought some 3W single CREE SMD's from DDM but the output isn't an even distribution in the OEM lens as you pan across it. They are super bright when you get to the bright areas, but just somewhat bright in the darker areas. Also the color of these are closer to 4500k-5000k. They are whiter than my 6000k HIDs.

For a more consistant illumination of the lens, go with the multiple LED ones like this, which is what i had before. The brightest spots aren't as bright as the 3W CREE, but the overall fullness of the light is more even.:

@happa..good to hear that they've held up so well for over five years!!! Yeah, I got the 1157 led replacement for the turn signal, but it didn't work because it had off set tings, but the 194 led replacements worked great....here is a quick look...not dark here yet, so I will post night shot soon.

Here it is without the strips..

Strips make it look cheap and aftermarketish, I say delete the strips. That GPw on the lift looks sexy as well

Out of curiosity, where'd you guys mount the ballasts? I have been considering adding HID's to my car in the future.

Yeah, I thought so at first too, but it looks sick at night and just updates it so much.. And it is hardly noticeable in the day time... Also easy to just take off if I get sick of it.. The pictures are hard to do justice to the actual look of them...

you sure those are 6000k?

They look more like 12000....
Yep, I'm sure... It's just hard to catch the actual look on iPhone camera.. It really just makes it way more vibrant then it really is...

There is a bracket just behind and above the dust caps.. Double sided tape and some black zip ties and it's done... It's all self contained , no running wires to battery..

Some night shots...

Nice upgrade! When ordering, you chose the 55W version. What bulb type is the correct one to order? (I think 9006 is the low beam, right?). Do you need to also order the optional Mounting Brackets, HID Harness or Adaptor cables? What's involved in the install with regard to wiring? Any cutting or splicing? Or does the proper selection of bulb eliminate that issue? Should it have a relay or is the stock wiring sufficient? I think I'd go with 5000K bulbs, closer to the stock 4.3K. Seems like a great deal. I'd like to do it.

So yes, get 9006 for the low beam. 55Watt version. You do NOT need mounting brackets, error eliminators or adaptor cables.
The wiring harness, however, is optional. I personally would run them as it pulls the current directly from the battery, as opposed to through the stock wiring. Even though the overall constant draw is similar to the OEM 55W Halogen, there is a significant spike in current when the lights are first turned on. Over time this "could" affect your wiring. $10 is a small price to pay for that harness and piece of mind IMHO.
I mounted my ballasts in the headlight "box" just under the headlight hood/body cover, there's enough room in there to tuck it in.

Steve's kit is considerably less than 999.....and for the novice diyer is very doable. just sayin. sorry for slight thread shift.

Yes, I just picked up the 55w6000k kit (9006) $39.99 I didn't bother with all the extra stuff...all you need is some double sided tape and some black zip ties. Only cutting is the dust cap, drill 1" hole in slanted side.
I used the helpful guide that Hapa88 referred to...except we didn't pull the fuse or manually crank the headlight, Save some time and skip that part( just hit that pop up button) also there was no step 10 in my kit(running wires to battery)

I ended up going back to them DDM( they are local here in SD area) and picking up the LED parking light(194 bulb) $4.99.. The strips are 18" cut to fit ,that I got on eBay for like $20 a year ago for my is250, but never got around to using them so i threw them on to test it and loved it,just wish they were whiter instead of bluish..might order some white ones..looks pretty freakin dope though at night and can't even see them in the day if you don't turn them on..not a bad upgrade for entire front end lighting( hid, led, strips) for @$75( and a case of beer for Nick:tongue:)
Good luck..grab a friend and some tools...you'll be done in no time.....

Yes, they are a lot less then $999.....but a lot more then $39.99:tongue:
It really isn't that hard though for the most novice diyer to drill a hole in a plastic cover.....I'm just sayin......
Funny though I was searching prime for help installing and found post from the early days of the HiD kits and how much money$$$$ people spent on kits that go for $40 these days...reminded me when I bought a big ol 60" HD TV back when they were $3000:eek:

Gotta love technology ....it gets better and cheaper as time goes by.

Awesome, that link answers any questions I would have. Gonna order some right now! I figure if I'm debuting it in the spring with new wheels/rear valance, suspension and diffuser, may as well put HID's in it. Gonna have to replace the signal bulbs with some LED's as well! Just not strips - I'm not a huge fan of them personally.

Anyone suggest a good place to order the front marker/signal bulbs from in LED?

DDM Tunning will have everything you need...the LEDs that replace the parking lights (194) are $5

update-

switched out the blue stips for a much more vibrant white strip...these look great even in the day time....hopefully it will help with the ding dongs that pull out in front of you and come right in to my lane also...

before-looked ok in shade and night, but too blue and couldn't see them in daylight....

after- the new ones look much better and you can see them in daylight..bringing the pop-ups into the 21st century:cool:

they might be too bright for night...the darker it got the brighter they got....might have to ditch them or get some of those tinted covers.....

Yeah, def going to have to get some tinted covers by blodi....lil too bright at night.

Or maybe just tint the strips...

So I kind of want to do something similar to you, but I think the individual LED look isn't as up-to-date the latest solid uniform look. I think if we could modify these to defuse the light to a solid bar like the Porsche 991 911s DRLs, we'd be in business.

The uniform look is also on the latest Audi's

I agree, I love that look...I was thinking the same thing ...I figured out a way to dim mine a bit, but would love to come up with something that could cover it and make it look uniform like that A6... A type of fogged lens that is flexable and we'd be in business...I'm heading to Home Depot

Wait it just hit me...scotch tape!!!!!
