most pleasant / unexpected surprise?

i always find it pretty bad ass to have a 190 mph speedo. it takes a serious car to have a 190mph speedo ( even though we can't hit that stock nor is a stock 5 speed geared to hit it )

I was surprised how comfortable the car is for long drives

+1 for this. My first really long drive was from SF to Phoenix for NSXPO '05, and as we were pulling in to Phoenix (after driving 800 miles) I felt I could easily do another 500 before turning in. No discomfort whatsoever, and I've suffered back pain all my life. It's glorious.

Quite honestly, how quickly I got tired of driving it as a DD when my Integra got stolen and it was forced into duty full time. I had enjoyed it as a weekend car and occasional work day car but once I had to drive it everyday, I got real tired real quick of it. I guess that is why I parked it once I bought my Civic Si 8 mos ago and haven't driven it since.

You would rather drive your civic than your nsx. wow. I hope this never happens to me

I am dreading the snow when I will have to park my car.

Daily driver for sure!

the fact that my '04 smelled exactly like my '92 after 3 years NSX-less.
...weird, but cool.

Most Pleasant = Driving it - EVERY time!

Most Unexpected = Constantly repairing something (electric motors - windows/seats/headlights, bad electrical connections/connectors) and just average brakes. That said, I have a 1991 with 118K miles so it's starting to show it's age. Happy Motoring!

I've had my 91 for 15 months and put 10K on the odo (loved every mile).

I've noticed on long drives with the windows up the car will emit a soft, high pitched tone; I now refer to it as "The happy sound".

I have no idea where this sound comes from, it happens intermitantly, in different gears, RPM's and speeds.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Aliens.

This is going to sound goofy - but I like the "dinging/chime" sound if you leave your lights on and open the door. It reminds me of my first car in the 80's.

Agreed. This is the first car I have EVER owned that causes NO back pain and actually makes me feel better after long drives.

how great the intake sounds behind you when you get on it,
how nice the tan leather looks,
how much weatherstripping costs

Oddly enough, the telescoping steering column (in addition to the tilt/rotational) . . . much needed leg room.

After driving a 06 BMW M6 I did not feel like I had control of the car @ 120mph. The suspension was very mushy and lots of floating and body roll
Also, the stick shift height was so tall and the throw was so long. It felt like driving a truck. The NSX is turns like a roller coaster and sits low to the ground. At 130mph it hugged the ground with total control.

You never know man you might have had the suspension on one of the 14 million different settings! I've heard the gearbox has about 12 million.

Yes, as hard as it is to believe, I actually get more enjoyment out of my Civic right now than I do my NSX.
I used to practically worship the car and was totally consumed by it. Once we adopted our son and I started having to be a parent, I just lost a lot of desire for the car and the interest level went to practically zero.
I'm probably very much alone in feeling that way but it is my true feelings.

Hey 92,

Don't you wish the VTEC came on as strong in the NSX! It is really super noticeable in the Civic SI isn't it. I kept hearing about the VTEC in the NSX and after the almost turbo like VTEC in the Civic SI it was actually just a bit disappointing. Although the Civic sure doesn't sound like the NSX does it. If you could have both - now that would be really awesome!

I still like my NSX better than my Civic SI but I sure understand 92's feelings. When you become a parent - a lot of things change. He's got a lot of other important things on his mind now - but he's not selling!!!

As if my being single with no kids wasn't appealing enough already!!! LOL This confirms my life long beliefs :) lol

Thx man

I know what you mean. I used to be into the crx's (had 3 of them) until our son came along 10 years ago. Now that he is older I have rediscovered my passion for the honda (this time with the nsx). Best part is I get to share it with my son now!

i just bought mine and have only driven it for a few hours now...

I luv:

- the sound when it hits red line.. as it raddles your ear drum before you change gears
- reading peoples lips as they are talking about your car, when they really think its a ferrari ( personally think the nsx is better )
- fuel economy is awsome, doesn't seem to matter how you drive!( keep the revs in vtec and you get better milage than bogging it )
- my friend was trying to keep up in his lexus sc430 and was swaying all over the place on the corners, but the nsx corners like its on a rail!
- when the tires loose traction as your driving than suddenly grab, and you feel like in a rocket.
- the control and stabliity of a mid engine car, is so awsome
- and the handling even at 200km hour is increadible...
and finally how many cars can you drive on the freeway in 2nd gear, than through it in 3rd gear at 120km and beable to over accelerate 99% of most cars on the road...

I thinks if said enough, Im definetly hooked on this nsx, and could not think of a better car, for the price, miliage, and maintance!

I love the sound of the exhaust as I take the on-ramp on the way to work
I love thinking about driving it when I leave to go to lunch at work
I love taking round-a-bouts at full speed
I could go on forever.....
Best purchase I have ever made.
Ever.

I have the 98 NSX-T, winner of SEMA 2003 (audio) modded by DOCDAN and SUBWAY SAM.
Its perfect.

All the above mentioned stuff is true for me too. The car is simply awesome. You feel special driving it and you know it was a car Honda spared no expense in making "right".

Having said all that, the most pleasant/unexpected surprise is hands down the fellow NSX enthusiasts I have come to know and can proudly say are some of my closest friends.

When my brother returned from Vietnam in 1968, one of his Army buddies, was the son of Hulett Chevrolet in Camden MO. He bought a 1969 Corvett 350HP 4 Speed. At 13 I thought it was the coolest car in the world. I would go out early and sit in the car waiting for the bus to pick me up for school. In 1982 I bought a Mazda RX-7. My first sports car. Now the NSX is in the stable, my second sports car. I heard the hype about the looks, stares, compliments, people slowing down on the interstate, pacing a length or two behind to look or take CP pictures, or kids running up to the car wanting to know what it is or those that do, want to see and touch. The list goes on and on. I'm at a point where I pretty much drive and not look, to see if anyone's looking. There are more times than I will ever know where the car gets its deserved looks. But there was one that stood out.

My birthday was in August. My wife's present was a Jeff Gordan driving package for Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte NC. We drove into the infield, stopped took some photos of the car and went to the parking area. After checking in, there was about 90 minutes before my turn came up to drive the M&M #18 car. As you approached the pit wall, there are three guys fitting you with a helmet and testing the earplugs. The guy helping me, about 20, sees me and the first thing he said was, "You're the guy that drove the NSX here." I replied yes. He said the NSX was his favorite car.

Thinking about it later, it wasn't the surroundings that made the comment, it was that the person not only looked at the car, he looked at who I was and after 90 or so minutes, remembered me driving the NSX. That encounter reminded me why the NSX was the right choice and why I love its look today, even though its 14 years old.

All of the above, plus I have to tell you the mileage I got on a drive from K.C. to Springfield, MO with the Viper club. First off, these guys are crazy! We seldom were under a 100 and often a lot more than that. And no, no one got any tickets or were in any accidents. When I filled the tank in Springfield I was shocked to see that I got 24 MPG! You can guess what the Viper boys got. Oh, and I rubbed their noses in it too.

Hi MATMBL,

Newbie here. Got my '91 NSX about a month ago, all was quiet until I had the cruise control motor/actuator worked on, now I hear "the happy sound" every two minutes as well.

Any idea where it's coming from, how to make it stop?

Tks!
Darren.

I have been pulled over by the cops twice in the NSX. Both times, I think they just wanted to check out the car. Each time, no fine, no ticket.
Now if I could only have that kind of luck with the photo cameras!
