NSXPO 2007 in Ohio October 5-9 - Hold the dates!

Do we have a schedule of events yet?

I can't seem to find anything on nsxpo '07 on the NSXCA site, so I thought I would ask here.

Do we have a schedule of events yet?
No, not yet, other than the dates (October 5-7 for the social activities, with a welcome reception the evening of Thursday October 4, and October 8-9 for the track event). Some things are nailed down but a couple of activities are still being arranged. Stay tuned.

I think you would want to check Port Columbus (OHIO) Airport. From Columbus to New York City driving, approx. 500 miles? (I could be off +/- a hundred...). Looking forward to meeting you and your club members!

So, can I fly to New York from Columbus?
Yes.

The airport code for Port Columbus International Airport is CMH. It is the closest major airport to the NSXPO 2007 activities.

Non-stop flights between Columbus (CMH) and each of the three primary New York area airports are available via the following airlines:

US Airways (LGA - LaGuardia)
American Airlines (LGA - LaGuardia)
Delta Air Lines (LGA - LaGuardia, JFK - Kennedy)
Continental Airlines (EWR - Newark)

All of these flights are on the commuter airline affiliates of these airlines (i.e. smaller airplanes) except for a few (not all) of the flights on Continental.

As are we.It is always great to see our Japanese nsx brothers in the US! I hope the 07 planning commitee will help facilitate any of the Japanese contingent.

Hirofumi, there are several things to consider if you and your group wish to visit or fly through New York City to Columbus.

If you're flying in non-stop from Tokyo, your choices on NYC airports are limited to JFK or Newark (EWR). LaGuardia does not have international flights to Japan. JFK and LaGuardia are a 30 minute cab ride apart and you'll have to clear security again so you won't want to land in one and take off from the other. JFK and EWR are even further apart (1.5 hours by cab or worse) from each other. Bottom line....stick with one airport, either JFK or EWR.

Having said that one airline to consider is Jet Blue. They fly Airbus A320's nonstop from CMH (Columbus) to JFK 4 times a day and often have roundtrips UNDER $100. In my opinion, they are one of the best "budget" airlines around. The downside is that they do not "codeshare" with American, JAL or ANA so you'll have to book your flight to JFK and then book the Jet Blue flight separately. They are also in a different terminal so you'll have to clear security again after clearing customs. Give yourself at LEAST 3 hours to connect. This "separation" might actually be helpful if you plan to spend time either before or after NSXPO in the New York area since it won't be considered a "stopover" which often costs you more.

Another option is Continental airlines which flies nonstop NRT (Narita) to EWR (Newark) on a Boeing 777-200. They fly to BOTH Cleveland and Columbus from EWR with Cleveland having 8 flights a day (all full size jets) and Columbus 6 flights a day. Fares to CMH tend to be cheaper but make sure you're on a full size jet (2 flights a day) since the smaller commuter jets have very limited carryon baggage capacity. Even though you will land at the same terminal (probably C) that your Columbus flight departs from, you will have to clear customs and probably have to go through security again....so give it the usual 3 hours.

Remember also that Newark is in NEW JERSEY and JFK is in NEW YORK even though both service the New York City area.

And, of course, all of these airlines have equal opportunity to lose your luggage!

I would be happy to help you make your NYC city arrangements if you wish. Just contact me via email [email protected].

I look forward to seeing you and your friends again! We had a FABULOUS time last year!

Wei-Shen

Those are good tips from Wei-Shen. Here are a few more notes.

LaGuardia Airport is the closest airport to midtown Manhattan, and cabs are the easiest way into the city. Newark and JFK are about equal distances from Midtown. If you don't want to take a cab from EWR or JFK, there are trains into the city. At EWR, the AirTrain lets you take the people mover (between terminals) directly to the station where you can take the train (NJ Transit and Amtrak) into Manhattan; click here for the website about AirTrain Newark (you'll notice at the bottom of this web page you can click for a brochure in Japanese). Similarly, at JFK, the AirTrain takes you to subway and commuter rail statons; click here for the website about AirTrain JFK (and this, too, has a brochure in Japanese).

Wei-Shen mentioned JetBlue, a discount airline flying to Columbus. You may need to use Jet Blue's website to make reservations. Most of the travel agency websites do not show JetBlue flights and do not let you make reservations on JetBlue. (That's why I omitted it in my previous post.)

Wei-Shen also mentioned Cleveland, which is another city in Ohio. Cleveland is about 200 km from Columbus. The social activities from Thursday evening through Sunday will all be based in Columbus. The track event takes place on Monday and Tuesday; the track is between Columbus and Cleveland (it's about 90 km from Columbus and 110 km from Cleveland). So if you can fly to Columbus, it will be a lot more convenient to the event than flying to Cleveland.

We are looking forward to seeing you again, Tomiyoshi-san!

Hirofumi.

I do agree with NSXTASY though, if you plan on staying for the entire NSXPO, it would be easier to fly into Columbus.

However, if you happen to decide to fly into Cleveland, I will be glad to help answer any questions or assist, just PM me or email [email protected]. I plan on attending most of the events.

Regards,
Bill
