Man stabbed, decapitated on bus bound for Winnipeg

A young man travelling on a Greyhound bus bound for Winnipeg late Wednesday was stabbed to death and then decapitated in what appears to be a random act of violence, witnesses said.

According to passengers on the bus, the victim, between the ages of 18 to 20, was sleeping with his head against the window when the attack occurred.

"He was listening to music when suddenly the person next to him began to stab him in the neck with... a large butcher knife," CTV's Murray Oliver reported Thursday from Winnipeg, Man.

Garnet Caton, who was sitting in front of the victim, heard the commotion and turned around thinking he was going to witness a fight.

Caton told CTV News that once he realized what was going on he screamed: "Stop the bus, somebody's getting stabbed, everyone get the hell off."

The bus driver pulled over on a section of the east-bound Trans-Canada Highway -- about 15 kilometres west of Portage la Prairie, Man -- and many of the 37 passengers began to flee the bus.

Canton gathered a small group of people to go back and help the victim, said Oliver.

"They returned to the back of the bus to find that the person who was stabbing the person in the neck had now sawed off the head of (the victim)."

The man, with the head in one hand and the butcher knife in the other, then tried to attack the other passengers, said Oliver.

The group was able to exit the bus and slammed the door behind them.

The man then stabbed the door with his knife but was unable to break through and get off the bus. Eventually, he attempted to start up the bus to drive away but the operator had hit a switch, disabling the vehicle.

Oliver said a truck driver then arrived at the scene and handed out wrenches and crowbars to several men. The small group gathered around the door to the bus and prevented the man from exiting until police arrived.

RCMP eventually arrested the man after a standoff lasting several hours, said Oliver.

Witnesses said the suspect was tall, large and wearing sunglasses, even though it was dark.

The bus was travelling from Edmonton to Winnipeg.

The RCMP and Greyhound officials have confirmed that a "major incident" took place on the bus but few details have officially been released.

There are some CRAZY people out there.

Hell, the kid was just sleeping, I was waiting to read the kid's head was on the shoulder of the nutcase, but it was on the window!! He never even knew what hit him and next thing you know, the guy is swinging the kids head around by the hair. WTF?!?!?!?!?

Torture isn't good enough for this guy.

That's awful...remind me not to take the bus.

IMHO, the man should been dead before the police arrived:wink:. Save those tax payers dollars.

I agree 100%. That is why I now have a concealed carry license and I just bought one of these. It's smaller than my wallet and you'd never know it's in my front pocket.

Those are without a doubt (at least in my mind) one of the best concealed carry weapons around.
I like my PA-63 a little better personally though. Very small framed 9mm (makarov), reliable, parts are everywhere and light.

I guess the guy didn't read the rules on the website before he travelled.

"On Board Restrictions
For everyone's safety and comfort, Greyhound asks that customers please follow certain restrictions while on board. Federal law does not permit smoking on Greyhound buses. We have a zero tolerance for alcohol, drugs, weapons and unruly behavior."

But even if the victim had one of these, I don't think it would have saved his life. By the time you actually realized what the heck was going on and had the time to pull a gun out, this lunatic would have had half your head off. Unfortunately, there really isn't anything you can do against completely random acts of surprise violence.

Raise your hand if you're taking the bus to NSXPO.

Schizophrenia.

You are correct. But if I was on that bus and had my concealed weapon, I can guarantee you that I would have emptied the magazine towards the creep with the knife. Remember, we are also allowed to protect our fellow mankind from being killed by a lunatic. I'm not saying that I have the right to act like a cop or vigilante. However if I can save a life I will do what is necessary to help the innocent.

And they don't have the death penalty in Canada.

HA, I hit a serious road block on this too. I went to Grehound and before going through the metal detector, I put down my cpl (license). The guard looks at me and says.. can't let you in, so yes, that won't work.

And then, I walked over to amtrack and asked the clerk there. The clerk said he didn't know so he got his manager. He said you can't, though they didn't have metal detectors. I asked to see the documentation and I got something obscure but now the security guard were on high alert.

If I wouldn't have asked, it would have been fine.....

Oh, PS: WTF didn't Greyhound catch a hunting knife going through the metal detectors?!

Local case in a city near me. Neighbor attacked by his neighbor. The guy was tied up and had his penis cut off and his eyes gouged out before the police arrived. The perp should have been shot on the spot IMO.
