Anyone in SoCal that does this? This is badass!

That is really amazing. I'd like to know a bit more about it regarding nothing getting damaged during the process. It looks really great.

Continental Carbonic is a source for renting/buying the machine and the dry ice 1/8" blasting pellets:

Call us toll-free at 800-Dry-Ice2.

These guys make the machine:

Sunbelt Rentals has the machine available:

DRY ICE BLASTER 80#
Daily: $ 615
Weekly: $ 1,530
Four Week: $ 4,590

Very do-able for a Group blast get-together / split costs

So...it's "sand blasting" with ice crystals? No residues or pockets of crap to clean up. Way cool.

Based on what I'm reading it uses dry ice under pressure... no idea why this works the way it does though.....

Makes me want to start a business. May be cost prohibitive. I need to know how much the machines are.

I imagine you'd have to charge a pretty penny to do the job just to recoup the cost of the machine (that does not even factor in your time). Would folks spend 500+ having this done?

checked here in orlando and the closest sunbelt that has one is jacksonville.
for the 80# it's $765 per day!
looks like simple green, gunk and manual cleaning.

So it's like bead or sand blasting, but nothing gets trapped and stays there.

DAM....Screw that!

If you get a bunch of owners, with any type of car, to go in together on a week's rental it could be affordable if you factor in the garage and dry ice pellet supplies.

Note, these puppies are very loud. The garage would need to be in an industrial/light industrial area with very good hearing protection for all involved... check out the decible ratings on the vendor spec sheets.

This is not a garage project type of deal unless your neighbors are deaf.

The value of this device depends on if u drive and live in states where they salt the roads or near the ocean.

If it's dirt and grease, most if not all of it can be removed with Oil Eaters (or something similar like simple green HD) and a good pressure washer.

Detail shops around my area off this service and do it on a lift.

If it is dry ice they are using (below -78 centigrade), what damage would that do to all the rubber and poly components around the engine?

Good question and the main reason why I would NOT do it.

None, the article link below sums it up “It is safe on paint, soft rubber, decals, etc.” I know personally that Porsche Dealers in Germany have been doing this for years.

Adam, as you already know; you are correct. I've done some looking into this topic after you emailed me asking about it. It seems there are some high-end guys in Europe that have been getting into this stuff as well.

For others, from what I can tell, no damage is done because of the extremely short amount of time the surface is cold. Depending on how much steam these types of systems get and how well they're marketed, we all might be seeing them much more often in the future as they'd be great not only for car cleaning, but for cleaning in industrial kitchens and such as well.
