First ticket in the NSX

Sorry to about the ticket Nick, I always use my escort in my NSX in MD, it helps. I would go to court, and ask for a many postponments as possable. Your looking at what 4+ points, and they will stay with you for 3 years, but that is from the date of the ticket, so the longer you postpone, even if you dont go to court and end up paying, the less time the points will stay with you. I always go to court (no points for 15 years) and have always had the points droped, but higher court cost (fine with me). That said the fastest they got me for was 82 on rader. I just went in saying I dont do 82, I didn't say I wasn't speeding, but refused to except the 82 speed. No points and higher court cost. I do not think you will get off completely , but even 2 points is better then 4, and if you postpone as long as you can, you never know the cop may not show. Good luck,

And 105 on a road where flow of traffic is always 75-80 is really not that bad IMO.

Surely you are not THAT delusional? Please man up and take responsibility for your actions. 100mph on ANY public road in the US is insane and you should be punished accordingly.

Geez.....

Go buy yourself a Valentine One too, if legal there. It might have saved you from the entire incident.

Unfortunately VA is one of the states where its not legal... no idea why though.

Not sure about Maryland though...

Yep, feel your pain...... VA State Police and MD State Police are *VERY* tough, and enforcement oriented.
Valentine 1 since early this year, and recommend.

Also, since NSXPO Toronto is just around the corner, know ye all that radar detectors are illegal in Ontario.

+1

105 in a 55? Sorry, you got what you deserved.

While I share your Buckeye enthusiasm and of course, your absolute right to thoughts and opinions, I do wonder if you, having owned two NSX's now, have EVER broken 100 MPH in either of your NSX's on "public" right of ways.
Flame me all you want. I'm not trying to begin a right versus wrong debate.
100 mph on a public road is "insane"?

The mere possession of one in VA used to be grounds to seize it. The courts stepped in and said it has to be operating to be seized. Now, with all the GPS devices on dashes, it's difficult to tell what anyone has.

You are absolutely right. I had my 91 above the triple digit mark many times. The difference (in my eyes) is that HAD I gotten a ticket I would own up to it. Most people on here think right away about how they can get off on a technicality and forget that they actually DID get caught speeding.

For the record, I have never had my 2005 above 100 and except for maybe 1-2 times my 91 hit 100+ only on the track.

Insane to hit 100+ on public roads (and in the rain!). Yes.

I accepted responsibility as stated in my first post.
So I won't say I am not guilty...
All in all I should have seen this coming and deserve what happened. I just don't want any points.

Then his ticket should be thrown out. More reason to fight it!

Virginia Code § 46.2-841 - When overtaking vehicle may pass on right

§ 46.2-841. When overtaking vehicle may pass on right.

A. The driver of a vehicle may overtake and pass to the right of another vehicle only:

2. On a highway with unobstructed pavement, not occupied by parked vehicles, of sufficient width for two or more lines of moving vehicles in each direction;

The police car parked on the shoulder of the road takes care of number two.
They have all the bases covered. :)

not if its a 2 lane highway...

unless he was passing on the emergency lane then yea that is illegal... but on a freeway with many lanes its not illegal to pass on the right as long as u signal and give proper clearance.

There's no difference between the speeder who got caught and the speeder who didn't get caught so the speeder who was caught has the right to fight the ticket as best he can. I wouldn't even admit guilt here.

I have refrained, on purpose, from this thread, but now feel compelled to contribute...

I'm laughing at the Police Officer slapping you with three tickets and saying he's "cuttng you a break."

Yes, you are right, it is pretty darn funny that the LEO told him he was cutting him a break, eh? I mean...charging him with Reckless driving, impounding the car, and him maybe earning a suspending license and/or jail time....well, that's about the same as getting three tickets right?

And to Nick...

TA-21-801(h) Failure to reduce speed in dangerous weather (he screwed me on that)

Even with a light misting, what happens is that all of the oils that have been dropped onto the highway are "pushed to the surface" for lack of a better term. This is why the roads are especially slick when there has only been a light rain. So while you might have thought that he screwed you on that, very light rain and speeds in excess of 100mph on a highway or interstate are especially dangerous. The roads are slicker than you might imagine. While you might have felt that going 105 in a 55 with other cars around you was safe....apparently the trooper who pulled you over did not.

I'll bet that he is much more experienced and has seen the consequences of people actions who were doing the same thing as you did. If you lose control and smack the median wall at 105mph by yourself..you have only hurt yourself. If you lose control and smack (at 105mph) a van carpooling children to a soccer game, home from school, etc, and they smack the median wall at 55+mph. Well, then it is more than just you that you have affected with your actions.

Am I without sin? No. I have a lead foot and regularly do 80 on the interstate (where the speed limit is 65-75mph depending).

I'm just saying that there is more to this story than some cop who is pissed off that he doesn't have a NSX (as someone said earlier in the thread about police profiling sports cars because they are jealous).

All of that being said, Nick, I am very glad to see that you are taking responsibility for your actions....and I commend you on that. Today there are so many people who look for someone else to blame rather than own up to their actions.

Nick,

Far be it from me to tell you how fast to drive. I drive fast too and face the consequences if I get caught. And, sometimes I fit the Buckeye's definition of "insane."

It seems the tickets the cop gave you were redundant, but make no mistake about how lucky you were.

please read this link and tell me how far you were from the B-W Parkway and federal venue. Judges just don't like this sh*t. I know the one in the link quite well, and he's a fair and prudent jurist. But look at the consequence!

Also, consider that those with the G as an employer face retribution in the workplace from acts outside the workplace. When you were stopped by the officer, technically you were under arrest and your signature promised your appearance in court. When I worked for the G, that was an incident reportable to internal affairs.

I'm not telling you not to defend yourself. Just don't make it a Pyrric victory.

i got my first ticktet in my NSX monday. 107 in a 70. however, the officer reduced it to 89 since i was on my way to help with the jerry lewis muscular distrophy telethon/car show. Plus, it was 7 a.m. and there was no one in sight on the interstate. ...other than the cop. :) oh.. and it's my first ticket in 10 years, too. He just told me to be careful on the holiday weekend. i was fortunate.

Good luck, man.
