Have you taken your NSX to a dealer to get a trade in value?

Have you guys taken your nsx to any dealers to get a quote on trade in values? Do the dealers give you a fair market value OR bluebook value? The difference is huge as the market value of these cars are very high. ie 91-93 nsx still go for $30k. But according to bluebook its probably only worth $10k.

The reason why Im asking is Im looking to get a early year NSX and will not keep it for more than 1-2 years. I hate selling the car privately and Im only looking to trade it in. Will I be looking at a $20k lost in value?

thanks in advance

You always take a bath when you trade. With a NSX you will be looking at a blood bath.

A dealership generate more income from selling used cars than from new. Used cars do not carry a MSRP. Just what the buyer is willing to pay. Its been the rule for years although most sales people would rather sell new than used. Used car salemen get a bad rap but they make more $$ than new car sales. As to NSX trade-in value, In HK, they stopped giving such as it would generally insult the owners. Selling privately is the best way to go as long as you shut out the joy pilots.

There's a reason they call them "Dealers." The deal's always in their favor. Want to experience another type of dealer - go to a casino .

Not a chance!

I never trade in a car period. It's always better to be patient and sell it privately...especially with an NSX. The dealer will try to give you $10K and turn around and try to sell it for $35K. That money is magically taken from your pocket to theirs.

Do yourself a favor...Buy from a private party and sell to a private party. Sorry to all the car dealers here

why even get a car if your so set on selling it in only 1-2 years. who knows why don't you try to own one first than tell us if you still want to sell it. there is a reason why many members here have owned multiple nsx's. its something you will never know until you own one.

eh...I got a trade offer of 26K for my 96...not TERRIBLE...but definetly not enough

The last time I check, KBB price for a 91 NSX with 100k miles is about 24k, NOT 10k

Fair. That's the main reason to sell it privately but even then there are a lot of fun drivers, loosers, epsilon-half-idiots and low ballers out there who will get on your nerves.

Id really like to know some trade in numbers also. I would probably be inclined to get rid of mine but dont want the hassle and bs with a private sell, but dont want to take a bath either.

Anybody think you could get mid 40s for an 02 on trade in?

So a local Ford dealer had taken a '91 in on trade; it had about 50K mi, and they were selling it for 28k if I remember correctly. Not a bad deal at the time. I went to look at it, liked it, and inquired as to what they'd offer me on mine ('91, 45K mi., auto). At that time in the market, I wouldn't have considered anything under $30K. Now granted, I didn't have the actual car with me, just the paperwork and a calendar-ready picture.
They offered $11k.

It's a good thing I wasn't drinking anything or I would have done a spit-take into their faces.

To this day I wonder how much they gave to the owner of that NSX. It sold next day, BTW.

Trades almost always kill you.

I did trade in two cars in all my years that I felt I received a very fair deal on.... most times the dealer seemed to offer 1/2 of what low book was on the car.

I chose to walk away and sell privately.

Now with eBay.... which is where I purchased my car from... I feel I received a good deal, great car, but yet the seller didn't take a blood bath either.

I haven't sold a car on eBay, but it seems like it would be less hastle than advertising it and having lots of people just wanting to take your car for a joy ride.

Like somebody mentioned... once you purchase an NSX, you may not want to sell it in one or two years down the road.

I don't see me selling ours anytime soon.

I traded a car TWICE for new cars. There is no problem with this as long as you get a good price from the dealer. Both times I had to negotiate the trade-in price. You also have to negotiate the price of the new car and trade-in SEPARATELY. The trade in on a car I had a few years ago was 20k. It took awhile to get to that price, but I was happy with it since private party sale would have been around 22k. The new car cost 34k, so I only had to pay the DIFFERENCE in tax. The 2k I could have made in a private party sale, ended up being made up since I only paid the difference on tax (14k).

I worked for a Honda dealer in sales for 10 months back in 2004. While I was there, I showed the people I worked with my then pristine '91 silver/black NSX with 48K miles on it. The car was worth around $35K average given the condition of the car. Their main used car buyer for the dealer group was around and I asked him what he'd give in trade or purchase the car for. He looked at it, pulled out his guide and said he'd start me off at $22K. I told him what the car is really worth and what kind of car the NSX was. He didn't care. His goal was to buy it for as little as possible and sell for as much as he can. I added that it was maintained and all the expensive service was up-to-date. Said that wouldn't change what he'd pay for it. Given that this was for information purposes, if I had decided to let go of the car back then, it would have been through a private sale.

I tried to sell mine here on prime for 19K and didnt get any takers, so I traded it in to car max and they gave me 13K for it. If that gives you an idea.

I've only traded in two cars and they were both Acura's. One was and MDX and I was only $500 upsidedown on it which I just put into the new loan on a TL. When I traded in my TL for an Infiniti, I actually got back $1,700 on that deal.

Thats why you go to Carmax first, get an idea of what your car is worth, fold their written offer in your pocket and post the car on prime / craigslist for a little more. In the posting you include that you do have a pending deal with carmax, however you want to get extra $ privatley. If after a week nobody showed up then you take it to carmax. If you knew that 13k is all you're getting so far then your car should've been posted on prime for 15, not for 19 and then it would propably sell.

selling privately is not a big hassle... why would anyone want to lose $20K?

If you spend $45K on an NSX, the dealer will offer around $30K... why would u waste your time??:rolleyes: I can't believe anyone would seriously consider this... Read the rest of these replies and you should have your answer... Don't do it! The less the car changes hands the better...
