Hi All,

Where are you guys buying the Honda Crank Tool and Valve Adjusters for the timing belt DIY? I cant seem to find the same one used in the DIY written by Gary Kentosh found here on prime.

thanks!

If you google the part numbers, you can find Acura/Honda parts websites (run by US dealerships) that can ship them to you, or you can pick-up at a local Acura dealer like I did, but I would probably do shipping now for obvious reasons. Both tools are absolutely necessary for this job IMO.

Not an endorsement, but I used https://www.acuraautomotiveparts.org/oem-parts/acura-tappet-adjuster-07maapr70110 and https://www.acuraautomotiveparts.org/oem-parts/acura-tappet-lock-nut-wren-07maapr70120 for the tappet/lock nut tools, those prices seem to be the market rate (~$70-80 for both). Part numbers are 07MAA-PR70110 and 07MAA-PR70120.

If you want the OEM crank tool (wrench & handle), you can plug the part numbers (07JAB-001020B handle, 07NAB-001030A 45mm wrench) into the same sites and buy that way. They are fairly expensive (~$160 total).

If you have a M/T car, your wrench is most likely 45mm, A/T cars have a different crank pulley which is 50mm and not the same part number.

Instead of the OEM crank tools, I used a generic Honda holder tool off Amazon for ~$15, and my own 1/2" breaker bar for a much cheaper solution. You might have to get creative with extensions going this method since the OEM tool is flush to the crank pulley and most generic tools stick out too close to the frame/suspension components. I would link the store page but you probably have a M/T car and the 50mm tool I used would be too large to fit your pulley.

For the valve adjustment tools, you might want to consider this

https://www.ebay.ca/i/202744713633?...MIrfyUquzv6AIVUZJbCh1fnQSvEAYYASABEgJO1fD_BwE

Combines both Honda valve adjustment tools. Haven't used it on the NSX, just 4 cyl variants. The screw driver portion might be inconveniently long for use on the NSX. You could fix that with a shorter handle screwdriver - or custom fit the screwdriver with a hacksaw:smile:.

Yes, it seems that the Powertrade / Alltrade appears to have ceased production, although my son was able to pick one up for his RSX for around $20 Cdn not that long ago. Counting on using it if I ever have to adjust the valves on the NSX.

The Snap-On version seems to still be in production. Comes with a Snap-On price (which fits with the NSX tax?) which makes the Honda tool look like a bit of a bargain.

Thank you, i'll search for the AllTrade 648822.

Btw, for the 90k service, do one replace the cam seals while doing the timing belt/water pump replacement? Is this a good time to do that as well? I want to make sure i do all the maintenance while i'm in there. thanks!

Can you PM me where your son found one? i'm not having much luck. thanks!

re: crankshaft holder tool

You might want to try the Lisle 77080 heavy socket
https://www.amazon.com/Lisle-77080-Harmonic-Balancer-Socket/dp/B00RGNCV1U/ref=sr_1_1

or the copy CTA 1065
https://www.amazon.com/CTA-Tools-1065-Crank-Socket/dp/B01LEXSQV6/ref=sr_1_2

These heavy sockets should break loose the bolt without a holder if you have a 1/2" impact driver.

However, if you still want a holder and while you are looking for the rare $12 Powerbuilt valve adjuster

You might want to look for the Powerbuilt/Alltrade 648818 45mm crank pulley holder (if you need 45mm).
https://www.amazon.com/Alltrade-648818-Honda-Pulley-Crankshaft/dp/B0002Q8TR8

If you need the 50mm Powerbuilt 648796 (most common)

@Old Guy some secret Canadian thing?

No, OP asked for a PM so I complied.

Not particularly secret. It is Amazon.ca that still lists the tool as available.

https://www.amazon.ca/Powerbuilt-Al...erbuilt+Alltrade+648822&qid=1587567379&sr=8-4

Its interesting that if you search for 'Powerbuilt Alltrade 648822' on Google (even Google.ca - wherever that server might be located?) you will not get a hit on the Amazon.ca web site. So maybe it is a 'secret Canadian thing'. Perhaps the Google web crawlers are respecting the Covid 19 border closure?

I am a little suspicious that the coveted 648822 might actually be vaporous since it is out of production. If nobody has tried to order it from Amazon.ca in the last xx months Amazon.ca may not have checked to confirm its availability. We'll see if juejaimon is able to order it and get it delivered.
