Now we officially know Honda will stop NSX production, I feel strange and I don't know if I would prefer too see its successor named NSX or differently.

Using the same name is appealing to me because I feel the magnificient NSX deserved to long last like a Porsche 911 ( even more IMO ).

On the other side, like Ferrari, why not rename its successor?

One thing is for sure, I don't like the fact Honda stop producing the marvelous NSX instead of upgrading it...

Should next NSX use the same name?

What do you think about this today ?

( When the other Acura were named Legend, Integra, Vigor, ... the 3 letter name was different, intriguing and thus appealing but now... )

As much as I love the NSX, it's best if Honda moves on with the name. Here are my reasons:

1) The NSX didnt make a big enough splash in the supercar market (it's even been called "japan's forgotten supercar")
2) The NSX is currently stereotyped as being too slow and old,
3) A new name means a new beginning. The new car can start it's own reputation,
4) A new name doesn't mean the new car doesn't have to be devoid of any relationship with the NSX. Honda can still point out the new car's heritage,
5) The NSX is seen as the car Ayrton Senna built. He's not building the new one, and lastly
6) Honda can go back 40yrs from now and do a Ford GT type re-make of the NSX... but with hover-conversion and holographic windscreens. :D

The very name "NSX" does sound cool, sexy and mysterious... i will miss that. :D

I think that it is only fitting that the successor has a new name. This will keep the NSX lineage pure, as the near-perfect system it is. :biggrin:

Ferrari names are numeric and often designate specs of the car, so those names have to change w/ each model. 308 = 3L V8, 328 = 3.2L V8, 512TR = 5L V12, etc.

Well OK, the new model names get a bit more cryptic, but still....

The NSX name is proud and highly respected and deserves to live on.

I would prefer they use another name, for me there is always only one NSX, which is the original.

They could use HSC or another name, that should be perfectly fine, but then again, Porsche has used 911 for over 4 decades, so I guess either way if fine.

In my opinion it really depends on the what the new model will represent. If it is going to be more "luxury" than pure sports car, it should have a different name. But if it is going to continue on and be another revolutionary design as the NSX was upon it's introduction in the sports/exotic car industry, I'd wish for the name "NSX" to carry on:cool:
just my 0.02

Acura kicked a$$ when it had the Legend and Integra nameplates. They renamed the successors to those cars with crapped up alphanumeric european copycat BS!!! I had a friend that had a 3.2 RL. No one knew what the hell he was talking about when he told them what he had. He'd say, "It's the car that used to be called an Acura Legend". People would say, "OOOHHhhh, that was a good car!!" IMO, the ONLY name recognition that Acura brand has IS the NSX. Hell, they've named other cars in the lineup RSX,TSX,MDX, so they must like the 3 letter names and definitely have a thing for the letter X!! The biggest mistake was letting the Legend and Integra names go. That was unique in the luxury car market. They were always leaders, not followers. By joining the crowd, they looked like they were giving in to MB,Lex,etc. Keep the NSX name on a car worthy of those three letters. People see the NSX as be too slow and old!??!!?!!?! Where's the real NeoNSX at??? If it has a V-10 midship, that stereotype will disappear faster than Michael Jackson to a NAMBLA convention!!! Nissan is sticking with the GT-R because it is legendary. Toyota will resurrect the Supra name too. 911, Corvette, have prestige because they stuck with the name.
Acura will come out with a new V-10 sports car called the 5.4 BS. Rush down to the dealer and buy a new BS!! We know you don't know what the hell that is, but those chrome letters and numbers make you feel good, huh?? Oh, and let's put a little shield on the side of the car that's got some animal prancing. Maybe a unicorn, orrrr.....angry sea bass with lasers on their heads. That'll make them scared in Italy. Let's change the Acura logo too. It will have a FOUR pointed star. Take that Mercedes. We'll get Lexus too, with a better slogan, "Acura.....The relentless pursuit of imitation!!" Or BMW with, "Acura, the ultimate copying machine!!" Or Porsche with, "Acura....There are a LOT of substitutes!!"
Hell, you have to say the word "sex" when you say the name of the freakin' NSeX!! That's a marketing dream!!!! We bought this car because it was, and for the most part IS the best damn sports car on the planet. Honda will once again blow the world away with this new car and it will be horrible if the people at Honda try to "milk-toast" it down with anything less than the perfect name. NSX. Just my $.02.

Good post, Doc. Passion with humor. I couldn't agree more.

Just as long as they don't rename our generation "OSX" (Old Sporstcar eXperimental)

LOL... Doc C, i love your post. :D I love your point about NSeX... funny stuff. thanx for the laugh.

Just for correctional purposes: The "Real NeoNSX" doesnt think the NSX is slow and old (at least, it's nothing SoS can't fix :D )... the "Real NeoNSX" was merely stating the stereotype that other people believe. And the Real NeoNSX is now going to stop referring to himself in the third person. :rolleyes: :p

Bravo!!! A standing ovation!!:biggrin: :biggrin: :biggrin: Couldn't of said it better myself. Awesome coment!!!! Honda, ARE YOU LISTENING!!!!!???

The new supercar from Honda (Acura USA) should be get a new name. People will be guessing and doing double takes or rubber neck as they see you drive by. When the NSX first came out...the general public didn't know what a NSX is and said "WOW thas an ACURA!!!" It made the owner felt proud of owning the NSX. The same will apply when the new supercar comes out from HONDA. Owners will get praise with whatever name the car will be called.
As for the NSX now...it will continue to hold value or maybe increase in value once they discontinue the manufacturing of this car. The amount of these cars are pretty rare so price value should hold up because the production has stopped. What you guys think?

:smile:

I'm going to toss some name into the pool, I bet you one of them will be right.

:biggrin:
How about..

NSX10-2-700
NSX=NSX
10= 10cyl :biggrin:
2= number of turbo :biggrin:
700=700HP :biggrin: :biggrin: :biggrin:

LOL :tongue:

I see it this way....

If it's hand built, utilizes light weight materials, Mid engined, rear drive and utilizes the latest techno wizzardry Honda can muster call it NSX.

If it's built on a line, standard build materials, front engined, all wheel drive and has the biggest motor Honda can muster call it something else....and dont' call me when it comes out.

The pedigree of calling NSX would only work out and increase it if the first senario were fulfilled.

How about the NSX-II, ... kinda makes you think of the beautiful Mustang II :biggrin: :biggrin: :biggrin:

Ditch the NSX name! Almost everytime someone finds out I own an NSX before they see it, they think I own an RDX, MDX, RSX, TSX...then they see it and say "WOW...I though you had some other Acura blah-blah X". But then again, if they really do make a new supercar and call it an NSX, this problem could go away and I could say I have a first generation NSX!!! :cool: Screw it! I voted to ditch the name!

NSX = Honda Legend (legend as legend not the car)

new NSX = if it is a cutting edge like in '90

Not a exotic supercar (in today's standards) then NSX name should be kept for a future special machine.

OScar

why not just keep the "NSX" but just change the meaning. since it was "New Sportscar eXperimental" just change it to "New Stallion eXecutioner":biggrin:

As much as I'd love to say someday I own a 2012 NSX...

the automotive stigma associated with the NSX is that of the current NSX, not the groundbreaking 1991 Ferrari-eater.

IMO they need something new and fresh. Like, the Son of the NSX type of vehicle...

S-5000!

5.0L V10.

I'll take two!
