Hagerty Unveils Its Picks for Tomorrow's Hottest Collectibles

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich., Jan. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Tomorrow's collector cars
are parked in garages and sitting on showroom floors across America. To
help consumers sort out the next generation of sweet wheels, McKeel
Hagerty, CEO of Hagerty and a respected collector car valuation expert, has
compiled his choices for Hagerty's Top 10 Future Collector Cars.

In determining the Hagerty Hot List: Top 10 Future Collector Cars,
Hagerty analyzed the reasons today's collector cars are such hot
commodities: pop-culture popularity, limited production numbers and the
style of the next generation of collectors. The company included a wide
range of models that span market segments and price ranges: cars that are
more affordable, fun to drive and still enticing for future generations.

Hagerty's Hot List:

* Toyota FJ Cruiser

* Mini Cooper

* Lotus Elise

* Dodge Viper

* Acura NSX

* Toyota Scion

* Audi TT

* Jaguar XK

* Chrysler 300

* Smart Car

"Many consumers may be driving a future collector car right now!" says
Hagerty. "Our goal was to find cars that drivers find appealing now, and
that they may consider nostalgic in 15 to 20 years. Each car on Hagerty's
Hot List possesses a 'buzz,' a Wow Factor that resonates with consumers of
all ages, many cars being daily drivers that turn heads already."

With hundreds of thousands of car enthusiasts flocking to the
world-renowned Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction and six other auction
houses in Scottsdale, Ariz., to ring in the collector car auction season --
some may wonder: Who can afford a collector car? With Hagerty's Hot List,
you don't need to break the bank to get a hot and value-appreciating ride.
All you have to do is wait.

"Unlike the vagaries of the stock market, certain models not only
retain their value but escalate in popularity and price far beyond
expectations," says Hagerty.

Hagerty is the leading insurance agency for collector vehicles and
boats in the nation, and host to the largest network of collector car
owners. Hagerty offers collector car insurance, financing and roadside
assistance as well as a variety of useful information resources. The
company works proactively on hobby legislation and supports the Collectors
Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preservation of the
hobby. For more information, call 800-922-4050 or visit http://www.hagerty.com.

Everything makes sens except Scion...that makes no sense.

I mean, a Toyota Supra, 350Z, Miata, etc...fine... but Scion? Really? Just blew the whole list.
Xa or Xb? lol

Wow! That's like saying your name will go down it the history books, right next to Pee Wee Herman.:biggrin: I guess this is just one more reason to hang on to our NSX's

S2000 is not on the list...you may want to sell it now and grab a scion before the prices jump! :wink:

I imagine that the Scion is on it for it's unique (by that I mean weird) design, it's separate brand, and the fact that they have to stop producing those ugly things soon. It's the woody of our day.

Well, the Integra GS-R and Type R didn't make the list. Considering the number of those that are trashed now, there will be very few clean ones in 10 years, much less five.

Guess it's time to sell the GS-R and S2000 since they didn't make the list :tongue:

I wouldn't call that a list, besides the NSX and Viper, the rest are high production cars that have no exclusivity at all

I would agree on the surface. But watching Barrett Jackson in the last two years, there are some cars, that are just cars going for decent money. The NSX & Viper should go for considerably more, especially if they start putting Hemis in them :) .

which scion...the xb that looks like a box....or tc, which is pretty fun to drive? My son has a tc. Fun little car...but a collector item, I doubt it.

Yer not kidding. While I like muscle cars and old hotrods from the 20's and 30's, the auction is really lacking. Only a few Ferrari's on the list, and only a few(one being a 512BBi) are really impressive. The porsches are a little better.
But where are the DeTamaso's, old Lambos(Miura, Espada, etc.), etc. I would think that some of these rares exotics would fetch a nice price. Perhaps the owners aren't willing to part with there cars?

I would say a scion is on the list because of toyota's efforts to create a "lifestyle" around the car. This sort of promotes cult car status later. It's questionable if it will actually happen but I can understand how it ended up on the list.

I'm willing to part with my 1973 DeTomaso Pantera:

Funny thing as I was wanting to enter it in the Barrett-Jackson auction in Arizona. I was told that this was not the place for it and their Palm Beach auction in South Florida was a better place for it.

I would venture to say the Lotus Elise is the least produced car on that list. Only like 2500 Elises have been sold here and only about 300 Exiges. The Exige will be more valubale then the Elise. Although not drivable on city street the Exige 240R Cup will probably keep a high price.
