Just finished installing Pioneer's 1st gen. App Radio (SPH-DA01), and despite mixed reviews from various research, it performs well for me and I love the functionality. I bought for $200 and for the money I though it was a bargain for the features it has.

Seems more a parts replacing estimate vs diagnosing the problem. Definitely get a second opinion. I'd think you could rebuild the entire engine for that money (or a little higher).
