I would NOT look twice at this car.

It's not the new NSX, they may CALL it the new NSX but in reality we all know what an NSX REALLY IS!

Yep, that's my point. The Apple and Orange look the same (you can get different colors) but you don't pay $150,000 to look the same as a $23,000 Hyundai

Sure they're different under the skin.... but do you really want to plow so much money into a car that will get lost in traffic with all the Hyundais that will be on the road?

The Genesis will be a big hit with teenagers, and I bet they sell a ton of them.

Honda needs to do better on a Halo design

So Hyundai sets out to design a cheap entry level sports car that will sell in big numbers. Honda sits down to design a very expensive Halo car, that will bring people into the dealerships. With such different goals in mind.....how did they end up looking the same?

My guess.... Hyundai will sell this car with 300HP for $30k and maybe Honda is building the same car with twice the HP for $69k. That would be the only excuse, for the lack of any effort in the design and look, that aren't exactly Halo car status. (I remember people just standing around in Acura dealerships, stunned when the 1st NSX came out. Honda didn't make a profit on the NSX, but it sold a lot of extra Acura's with the traffic it created in the dealerships)

If Honda wants to charge $150k, you need to give us something that breaks new ground in design and makes people turn their head and look twice

People that buy cars in the $150k range..... break it down 3 ways-
- $50k for the big HP engine
- $50k on the exotic design,
- $50k on the heritage or prestige.
(you could argue that people buy based on lap times at the ring, but most don't)

Using that score card... I'm looking at a $69k car from Honda so far.
($50k for the engine and $19k for the Hyundai Genesis body)

I agree on many levels. The current body shape of the Acura GT prototype is played out and over used. Far from exotic as it is abundant and common to find the FR coupe shape (coupled with safety regulations mandating the bloated 50+ in size) in todays cars. The fact is that exotic is often associated with mid-engine and its intrinsic proportions. Sure, maybe Honda is not trying to deliver an exotic, as I don't recall them claiming to deliver one , but blending in with other cars are not going to generate or justify sales either. Anything over $60K for a car that does not demand attention is pretty much a waste of money. Given if the car is a world performer, $80K would be a stretch to ask for if it lacks beautiful design.

I know it sounds shallow, but it has already been proven over and over by many car companies that high performance or going fast is easily obtainable. There are so many cars today for ~$30K or less that can perform the same or better than the NSX, but which is definately more desirable? Any young kid who buys a TC, Tiburon, RSX, Civic Si, Cobalt SS, WRX, SRT-4, etc. would not think twice if they had to choose between their current car or an NSX. Honda needs to step up their game in the visual department as we already know Hondas are reliable and engineered well.

Evolution or dare I say revolution needs to take place with the new Acura Halo car, not inclusion. We seek overall progression, not just displacement and compromises. It's great to see advancement on the engineering side, but I don't want to see design/looks compromised because of that. Is it too much to demand advancement from both fields? I guess I get caught up on this issue cause Honda really is the only one right now with the opportunity and tools to acheive this perfect balance like they did with the NSX. All of the other car companies have shown their colors with their flagship cars, and have left me unsatisfied. Honda is the only one left that can deliver. I believe many others feel the same way.

Those are just photo illustrations. I'm sure Acura will slap that big ugly grille on the front to make sure we know what it is.

Brilliant!! Now take this "reasoning" to your friendly Acura dealer when the NSX replacement arrives and offer to pay them $69k for the car.

They will first have a good laugh at your expense, then they will beat you about your head gleefully and then toss you out in the street on your rear end.

You can then proceed to the nearest Hyundai dealer and purchase your real sports car which is what you deserve anyway.

A bit of advice, the same scenario will be repeated if you offer to purchase a Patek Philippe for the price of a plastic Casio.

lol, for those who kept up with the "lack of effort":biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

In case you guys haven't figure this out yet. You CANNOT lack in design effort when you make the car go extreme fast.

Turbo charge the Genesis make sure it can go over 200mph. See if that chassis will hold up.

Although there is an esthetic similarity to both designs in this apples to oranges comparo Honda could certainly give this rather generic gt style body more exotic road presance by making it low and wide say 48 inches tall and 76 wide. That is why Astons and Ferrari gts look so nifty.

it's ok, guys, I wouldn't think Honda will unveil the nsx anyway with current economy.

no offense. but the people who have nsx's and the people who will buy them in the future....have the money to contiunue doing so. if they are concerned about budgeting...buy a civic si :) if i was strapped for cash i wouldnt be like....oh i guess ill buy the gallardo instead of the murcielago because we're strapped for cash

I'm no NSX guru by any means and I can't quote numbers like some people on here. But I don't understand why all of the hate for this new car. The NSX was less popular than the Pontiac Aztek in sales. This car is probably going to attract a different group of buyers, which seems like a good thing since the current group is so small. You can only go up from here. If Honda moves 500 units a year they are doing 100% better than before. I believe that that's possible as long as the "numbers" are right. People won't care where the engine is if the car has the performance to rival that of the GT-R.

It's always about the numbers. $$ PRICE $$ That's why the Aztec sold more units. Poor comparison. The ASCC looks like an average car. The sales will be even less than the NSX because the NSX was unique in many ways and ahead of it's time. The ASCC has missed the mark with Honda fans. There are too many other beautiful cars out there to choose from these days. What you are saying is that Honda is going to convert the other exotic and high end luxury owners to Honda dispite the fact that current Honda owners are already looking elsewhere because of their disappointment. It's not going to work and this vehicle will have a short shelf life. Now add the poor world economy into the equation. The new NSX should have been a beast with the looks of an exotic super model.

I'm not a Hyundai expert (nor care to be one) but if you plug in- "2010 Genesis" into a web search....this is what comes up (the red car, not the silver one). I think, this photo is from the New York auto show?

I disagree. This car will sell for the same reason that the GT-R is selling. Performance over price. I don't car what it looks like. The GT-R looks like a piece of crap but it's a technical marvel.

As long as Honda offers this car at a price that kills the competition in performance and technology, it will sell.
