Insurance for the NSX is Killing me!!!

Well first of all, I'm 21 yrs old, with one point on my driving record from a speeding ticket I got a little more than a year ago. I'm currently paying an outrageous $380/mo on insurance. If $380 dollars a month is what i have to pay in order to drive the nsx, then it's completely worth doing. I know the factors that affect insurance premiums are age, location, driving record, duration of driving experience, type of car driven, and believe it not, credit! But based on my current situation, it just stikes me that i'm paying so much in insurance, when i can be putting some of that money into investments. Any auto insurance professionals here, or any recommendations on insurance companies? Thanks in advance for your help

William

William, you have it all right. You are driving the NSX and paying through the nose for auto insurance. We all are.
Again, it's just the landscape.

I don't even pay 1/3rd that. I also have a speeding ticket on my record from 1.5 yrs ago. (115 in a 60)

When I was 19 in 1997 Geicko (sp?) wanted 4k a year to insure my 1989 Trans Am GTA. I still think I'm overpaying, I pay $2,600 through USAA a year for all of the vehicles in my signature (with liability only on the truck and bike).

Just out of curiosity what is everyone else's situation? (and if you think it is too personal, then dont reply)

My NSX was 400 for six months.
You should ask your agent how much your insurance would be if there were no tickets on your record. Knowing that info would probably help you to slow down.

try a new insurance company.

If you have 3+ years of driving expereince it should be very low.... the ticket is only adding about 30$ amonth.

Next time, always contest the ticket, then ask for traffic school

Im with AAA and it is pretty low. Also do you have a second car? if you do, put that one as your primary driver and put hte NSX as your secondary car... that way your insure for the NSX will be dirt cheap....

Thats how im getting by with mine. I got 4 cars on full coverage and is paying lot less then 380 with one ticket on my record that is going off this christmas.

I cant stress this enough.. but gota pay to play.

You might want to try something like this:

Here

Acura NSX value $30000
$597*

This quick quote is an estimate of how little it can costs to insure your classic car with Parish Heacock. To receive a firm quote for your classic car insurance. This estimate is based on 3,000 road miles per year and includes; Comp. & Collision, $50,000 liability & Uninsured Motorist coverage.

Such comparisons are meaningless unles one also specifies the comprehensive/liability limits, the deductibles, the geographic location you live, how many miles you drive, business or leisure, other drivers on the policy holder, etc .........

Having said this, I just changed from one insurance company I have been with for over 20 years to another insurance company using the same exact parameters and saved $1400! I called them 10 times to make sure I did not get the quote wrong, or missed something in the fine print. It all boiled down on how they assessed risk and what their experience has been with specific cars. So do shop around.

Who did you get this from?

$380 a month is way too much. I think I pay $1000 a year. Of course, being 30, married, house, professional, etc changes things. Although I also have upgraded coverage....

I go thru Amica...love em.

I feal for ya, im 21 too, got my 01 NSX when I was 19. If it was my only car it would have been $3500 every 6 months, but with muli line discount I only pay like $850 with it as a pleasure vehicle. Plus all tickets for me only count on my primary car...like all 11 of em :)
My advise, by a beater for a few thousand and make it your primary vehicle, heck even if its 10k its still gonna save ya alot!!

I pay 340 a month for 3 cars including the NSX. If I had to pay 380 for one car that would not be too much of a stretch although I pay in discounted Canadian dollars. It's the price you have to pay.

This is all the kind of stuff that any potential buyer/owner should research before buying an NSX. Good luck getting a better deal.

Im 25yrs. old had a couple of tickets and only showing 1 on my record now and just sold my Integra Type-R which was 850 every 6 months until i turned 25 and then it went down to 750 every 6 months. I lower my insurance to 580 every six months buy buying a NSX-T and a Geo for a beater. Im using Geico for insurance. only problem with geico is that you do everything yourself like emailing yourself your own insurance card and policy. basically, your a number not a person.

i'd shop the 15 biggest insurance companies in the US (or your region). most will give quotes over the phone and all it takes is time. try to get that ticket removed from your record too... the idea of a beater for primary is a good one. if you have the space, buy a junker that will run for a few hundred bucks, keep it parked (i'd cover the unsightly mess mysself) and forget about it and focus on all the money you are saving! in my opinion, you are paying way too much a month for insurance, but boys and their toys... i can easily see why you do!!!

I've got USAA... it was 195/ month for an 05 Aviator, 04 VW Golf, and an 03 Tacoma 4DR 4x4... sold the truck and looking for NSX... was quoted 471 for 6 months on a 95... in the process of buying a 92, so i expect the insurance to be closer to 400 for 6 months... it'll probably be a 20-30 increase per month from the previous... not bad considering!

oh, i'm 28, married, house, no tix, gov employee...

Do we really need yet another "how much do you pay for insurance" topic? We already have way too many of those as it is, and anyone can check the numbers posted in them by clicking on these links:

Finally, to quote Mr. nsxtasy:

"Rates are going to vary depending on company, state, town, age, driving record, coverages and limits, etc.

There's a very easy way to find out how much it will cost for you to insure an NSX. Just call your insurance company and ask. They can tell you, even without you having to buy the car. Or you can check an online service such as http://www.insweb.com"

I am 21 and I pay 1700 a year for my 1991 NSX (Not primary driver)with a large umbrella over all my other cars. I insure 3 cars for 5000 a year(All with a 1000 deductible).Got quoted 4500 a year for an STI and did not end up getting it? I wonder why? Definitely get a older car and set it a your daily driver. I had one 8 point(When I was 17) ticket dropped to a 2 point defective windshield (Thanks to the lawyers @ DUIDenver.com ,FIFE).I also just received a 1 point defective vehicle ticket I hope it does not affect my rates.

I think you have to be over 30 to get this insurance coverage???

Being old has its privledges...lol I'm 32, single, and I have USAA, 95 NSX as only vehicle, $500 deductable and it is less than $400 for 6 months.

per USAA... sort of...

I got mine because my grandfather was career military... at some point along the way my mom had a policy with them. she cancelled it well before i was able to drive, but because she had a member number, i got one too. lucky me i guess, they rule!!!

Wow it's amazing how many people have USAA. I pay a little over $600 for my NSX. I'm 36 married ,house ,etc.

thanks for all the advice.

I also got my first NSX early on (21 years old) and got discounts for multi-car, safe driver discount, and some other things. Having the NSX listed as pleasure use and having a less expensive car as a primary is the way to go.
