Re: Factor X Wins Overall - beating AMS, Crawford & JIC. NSXs dominate all classes

Congrats to the Factor X Guys............................
It was great to see Mike and Ken again. Was fun to meet Billy and watch him drive (most fun was seeing him drive the 510). Their nsx was a monster and should get even faster with time. I was very happy with our results. Even though this was the first time we have ever run one of these events, I was hoping to get each one of our NSX's in the top three in each class (we did better and made the top 2).
Kip Olson 2nd overall in Unlimited (in Steve Ghent's white twin-turbo track car)
Kip Olson 1st in Modified RWD & 2nd overall in modified (in his red Comptech Supercharged NSX)
Igor Lyustin 2nd in stock RWD and overall by just a couple of hundredths (in his black Lovefab turbo NSX)
Thanks to all of the organizers and Factor X for giving us something to shoot for next year.
Cheers, Shad
PS. I was even more pleased with our results since we had a tractor driver and business man driving the cars.

Congrats to you also Shad, the cars looked and ran awesome. Hoepfully, you guys can make it to more events next year. Its always nice to see other modified NSXs out there competing.

Re: Factor X Wins Overall - beating AMS, Crawford & JIC. NSXs dominate all classes

According to a few AWD teams (hint: names consists of 3 letters), sound ordinances, additional mufflers, and more restrictive exhausts only affect power levels of AWD cars...

Re: Factor X Wins Overall - beating AMS, Crawford & JIC. NSXs dominate all classes

Congratulations! Fantastic result. I would have enjoyed seeing the competition in person. Unless I missed it, I thought Andrie was supposed to be there as well.

Consider it a compliment. You guys got the win. 'Nuff said.

If they don't come to NSXPO 2008 in Portland, there is a chance there will be a Redline Time Attack event at PIR in June of 2008, that I'm sure the boys from Factor X and Driving Ambitions will attend. :)

It was a great results for NSX community. We didn't get the NSX done in time. Few hiccups. Maybe next year.

The EVO broke on Wednesday Super Lap Battle. We tried all we could to make it, but no go.

Re: Factor X Wins Overall - beating AMS, Crawford & JIC. NSXs dominate all classes

Modified from www.redlinetimeattack.com

Normally, when a new vehicle makes its debut for a team, expectations are not very high the vehicle will be in the running for a Division Champion spot, let alone an Overall Event Champion Title. I guess nobody ever told that to the team over at Factor X or their driver Billy Johnson. Having won 3 Modified Class Champion Titles in a row (Buttonwillow ’06, Cal Speedway ’07, Buttonwillow ’07), Mike and Ken over at Factor X decided to build a brand new car from the ground up to compete in the Unlimited Class with the rest of the “Big Boys”.
All weekend long the team was having trouble meeting the 92db sound limitations imposed by the track. Like everyone else in attendance, Factor X had to get creative in order to rig up an exhaust that would be quiet enough. Then early Saturday morning, the turbo decided to make breakfast out of the air intake filter and the MoteC would not communicate preventing them from making needed adjustements. Needless to say, the team had to do whatever was necessary if they intended to make the competition come Sunday Morning. Thankfully, Ken’s cousin and local tech maven David Matsumoto came to the rescue fixing Mikey’s porn infested laptop and allowing it to link with the MoTeC. Without having a spare center cartridge for the turbo the team had Tod Kaneko inspect the blades. Two of the blades were missing quite a bit of material and the others were not far behind. Tod gave a shrug and said it should hold together. In the morning Time Attack session, Billy Johnson was able to rip off a stunning 1:32.254, this being a surprise considering the car had never run faster than 1:35’s all weekend long prior to the turbo failure.
Factor X skipped the afternoon Unlimited practice session and prepared themselves for the 2nd and final Time Attack round. With the sound restriction still being an issue, Ken was sent to Home Depot to pick up some steel wool and chicken wire. Both Jeff and Jay had 15 minutes to try and rig a set up that would not only pass the decibel meter but also stay intact. Amazingly Ebony and Ivory created the harmony needed to pass. Having just gotten out of his Datsun 510 in the Modified Class competition after being pulled out of one of the many “sand traps” at Laguna Seca following an off-track excursion, driver Billy Johnson had to prepare himself mentally. Maybe the frustration of his misstep in the Datsun gave him the added determination needed to propel himself and the team at Factor X to the Overall lead for the event. In the second flying lap of the second session Billy was able to rip off a 1:31.440, good enough to vault Billy to the front of the pack and secure the Overall Event Champion Title at the Inaugural Redline Time Attack Championships at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

It was an incredible event put on by the guys at Redline. We would like to thank our sponsors for making this car a possibility.

We would also like to thank Jon Kuroyama, Tod Kaneko, Derrick Ige, Jeff (Dead Guy), Rob Morrison and Titanium Dave for all the help, development, and advice while building and setting up this car. Thanks also to the never say die pit crew of Bruce Sato, Jay Pitman, and Adrian Ramos. Last and certainly not least, thanks to our friend (and finnaly legal to play in Vegas), the best damn cockpit spacer in the industry Billy Johnson for showing us that TEN months of hard work would materialize into something positive. Hopefully this is just the beginning…

Factor X and Driving Ambition have a lot to be proud of and happy about here!

Amazing, both you you. You too Billy! Awesome driving as usual.

We are all lucky that all you guys are pushing the envelope with NSXs.

I love everything about that new unlimited car. Its the baddest NSX there ever was IMO!

Those were some damn fast nsxes that Shad built and Kip is one hell of a driver and cool guy. We can only hope to have our NSX that dialed with more track time. Hopefully, we will see more of them and or other NSXs out there showing the world that the NSX is not a obsolete platform. Redline puts on a great event!

It is amazing what can be done when putting an NSX with some skilled and talented guys, on performance and driving.

Shad must be the man, he not only wins but brings 3 completely different set up NSX !!! ..white TT-NSX, Red CTaftercooledSC-NSX, Black Turbo-NSX.....and I didn't read about having any issues?

After looking at these pics some more.....you can clearly identify the ones with many, many sponsor stickers on them vs. the ones that don't...

I recon, the non sponsored cars are simple well-sorted track cars..just waiting for the next track day...and the drivers are regular guys and have regular day gigs.....and track their NSX for the fun of it...

I wonder what will happen if they do this full-time with some more stickers on their NSX;)

Today is great day to have an NSX and to see NSXs on track with these results...makes you think of what Senna Seen in the NSXs potential in his day.

job well done!

1:31.xxx at Laguna seca is pretty amazing esp for grassroots level racing considering that Realtime racing NSX ran something like 1:38.xxx back in '02.(although current world challenge cars are running like 1:29  )

Congrats on amazing effort to all NSXers.

Re: Factor X Wins Overall - beating AMS, Crawford & JIC. NSXs dominate all classes

Those were the days when we used to run our daily driven silver NSX to victory and drive her home to Las Vegas:smile: It truly is a testament to what the NSX is and can do in the proper hands. Shad is most definitely the man! It is very difficult to bring three cars and have them perform as they did. We have the utmost respect for him as he brought the heat to a competition unlike most keyboard cheerleaders that roam the boards here;) Building the unlimited the NSX is a whole new undertaking for us that required sponsorship as the budgets have become quite absorb anent for a privateer. Luckily for us everyone has been very excited about this project and many doors have been opened for us to showcase the NSX and its potential to run with more modern sports cars. Thanks for the congrats and maybe at the next event you can bring your "track" NSX out to play with the big boys:biggrin:

This was the 3rd time the Unlimited car has ever seen a track, compared to the months if not years of development of the other NSXs (including the old Silver Modified car)...

Being within relatively close factory parameters (body, suspension pickup points, geometry, etc...) makes finding the setup much easier. I wonder what the Black car could do once it has a little time and development...

Awesome results guys!

I don't see a Seamless sticker on there though...
