NSXclear.com Front Side Marker Replacements

Just to be clear, that means that these lenses are NOT LEGAL in the all states (CA being one of them). The reason being is the reflectors do not reflect the required color which is amber in the front (visible from the side), red in the rear (visible from the side).

There are many OEM supplied side markers that are not tinted orange or red. One such example is the Audi and Volkswagen side markers shown here:
http://media.photobucket.com/image/audi side blinker/markjl88/VW GLI VR6/SideBlinker.jpg?o=1

The only part with a hue is the bulb itself. If a proper amber color bulb is used, these will also reflect amber - satisfying the California requirement. A simple solution to keep the "clean" look would be to use a amber chromed 194 bulb that when illuminated will illuminate amber, and reflect amber in these housings.

Actually you're mistaken. The turn signal Sidemarker is a different thing altogether. The factory North American NSX's do not have turn signal "sidemarkers". The japanese ones do as seen here behind the front wheel:
honda-nsx-r-side-2_70.jpg

The NSX side reflector is there to satisfy the amber reflector requirement and is used when the parking light is illuminated. The fact that it blinks with the turn signal is an extra feature. Standard side markers do no illuminate with the parking lights (only when the turn signal is set)

Sidemarkers are used only for turn signals in the US. They DO NOT satisfy the CA requirement for the amber reflector in the front. Both VW and Audi have clear "sidemarkers" behind the fender but the ALWAYS have a front amber reflector (that illuminates with the parking light), as seen here in the VW Jetta on the bumper.

And on the Audi A4 the reflector portion is between the foglight and the front tire:

And on this older A4 in the headlight housing:

The CA law refers to a unilluminated reflector (like those that are on bicycle tires). These sidemarkers "illuminate" amber, but do not really "reflect" amber.

For the "clean" look, another solution would be to use amber LEDs. LEDs bulbs are clear when not illuminated, but shine the amber color when lit. Also LEDs run cooler, so you won't risk heat discoloration from the chrome colored standard bulbs.

I just want to be clear (no pun intended), that these are an AWESOME mod! I would totally rock these if I had the right color car.

I just want to warn everyone that even though the likelihood of you getting a ticket for these is like 1 in a 1,000,000, you still can technically get written up for it! Putting an amber bulb in them makes them "less illegal", but they still don't fully comply with the CA Vehicle code.

Just looking out for all of the Primers and the vender on this legal issue, that's all.
I just want everyone to know that I completely support this effort and a great product!

I understand the distinction you are making now, thank you for clarifying.

And I understand the confusion as well, which probably stems from the fact that the US NSX uses that light & reflector for two purposes.
1) As a sidemarker to blink with the turn signals.
2) As a side-facing parking light & side-facing front amber reflector.

#1 is an optional addition to cars in the US (I believe it is a required piece in Europe and in Japan, but I'm not certain).
#2, however is a requirement in CA (and most likely most other states). But because the NSX uses that piece for two purposes, the legality can be confusing especially since the CA Vehicle code is written in such a way that you have to refer to 4+ different sections to determine this part's legality. .

Here's mine... I'll get some better shots soon... lol... VERY PLEASED!

Are those the clear ones? I think that might look best on Sebring Silver. I was thinking light smoke before..

Sweet cuz I ordered the clear ones last night.

I think these probably look the best on red cars, but I think they are growing on me for black too... I decided to try them out, I think they will grow on me even more but I take a while to decide about aesthetics. The markers themselves are OEM quality but those chrome bulbs from ebay... ehhhh not so much! You can see in the pics they light up a washed out yellow color and not amber... Does anyone know where to buy some powerful, quality chrome bulbs that light up amber but are not LED? Also, did anyone have a problem with water getting behind the lens when they washed the car? Maybe it's just the hot n humid weather down here? Well, on to the pics:

Sorry, for the delayed response. I wasn't ignoring you. I wanted to see if other people were having the same fogging issues, before I responded.

Your satisfaction is very important to us!!

I am mailing you some silicone sealant to put around the side marker to better seal it from the water.

Product:
I bought the sealant from Home Depot (Paint Section). It is a GE Silicone II Sealant Window and Door (CLEAR). Make sure you get the CLEAR kind. Look for the small tube (2.8 oz) instead of the giant tube size.

Instructions:
Carefully push back the black rubber seal, until you can see the seam where the clear prism lens is glued to the side marker grey housing. Put a little bit of the Silicone sealant along this seam line. The tube here doesn't say how long the curing time is, but I would give it a couple hours. Hopefully, this will take care of the fogging issues.

No worries Ethan, I just wanted to confirm whether it was just the humidity level down here bc all other lenses seem to do the same thing at one time or another but it disappears pretty quickly and you only notice it on the clear ones. You wouldn't happen to have a recommendation for better bulbs though would you? Your product is great, but finding the right bulbs are critical for making the entire installation more successful IMO. Luckily they are cheap, so I might keep trying different ones out until I find some satisfactory ones. Thanks for the great customer service.

I got mine installed. Probably the easiest mod I've ever installed.
This is the clear ones on Sebring Silver..

Ethan, installed the clears on my '97 Formula Red this weekend and they are the cat's ass! Really set the car off. I assume this question has been asked but are you considering making rear markers as well? If not, PLEASE do so and if you are, I am all in.

Any pics?

I am getting a lot of questions about the best bulb to use. Would anyone with my side markers like to share some information on bulbs?

I just got 3 different bulbs here. I have wait to ge my car back to see which ones work best. I'll try to post up pictures.

I'm not sure that there's a consensus on what the "best" type of bulb is. I don't particularly like super bright led's, while others obviously do. Some like more of a yellow color vs orange.

I just ended up picking up these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/194-...5353025?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories

They work fine and have the silver coating, although I found it doesn't really matter unless you have the "clear" corners that you can see the bulb through. (I have the light smoke) The bulb lights appear orange when lit, but they are not overly bright.

Seems like most pre-02' guys stick with the clear version of the side markers since it matches the front bumper turn signal housing which is also clear. Having an 03', I went with light tint to match the window tint that's on my car.

my friend would like a set as well, i tired calling your cell and it went to voicemail. i left a message and i figured id try you on here as well.

Sorry, I was out of town and my cell phone got damaged. Email me what you need.

-----

I just got back from Hugo's Window Fix-it day in Los Angeles. Great turn-out and fun day. I brought my front side markers and sold them to almost everyone there.

I think 9 out of the 12 NSX there bought a set of front side markers from me. The only ones that didn't get a set were a NSX that didn't have side markers, an Imola orange NSX (the amber markers match his car), and another NSX I can't remember.

I also learned that part of the hesitation in buying these, is the installation. I think most people were shock to see me install them in less than 15 secs without damaging the car. I will put up Youtube video soon to show you how easy it is.

I'm still waiting for pictures and reviews from this group. I hope you guys like them.

Here is a couple picture from that day:
