Tax Relief Drive - April 22 2006

I'll be ther early with my radio on:wink: If it is raining I will be on the second floor of the first parking garage (same place as last week) staying dry. At worst we can try some different food at the Pechanga Buffet:rolleyes:

I am optimistic though:biggrin:

See you all Bright and Early!

Weather.com does not show any rain tomorrow. Anyone else going over Ortega Highway to get there?

Hi Guys,
New member here, I just got my 98 NSX last month! Would love to join you all tomorrow for this drive. I need the rental radio, but I don't have a PayPal account. Cash, anyone? Also, how do I put myself on the list, or does this count?
-Michael

I am!! But I'm getting there via Antonio, not I-5. Planning to leave my house between 6:30-6:45 to give me enough time to get fuel in Temecula.

We'll see you there Scott. Thanks again to you and Troy for all the work, look forward to the drive. Gil and Donna

Since you put it that way, I don't feel so bad now. I was actually thinking of getting to the meeting area an hour early so that I can eat again, but I think sleep might serve me better. That and the fact that I might not be anywhere near a half decent restroom during the Drive. :D

As of 9:30, clear sky, stars and no clouds in Carlsbad.

Forecast said 20% chance of rain. 91x is going to give us a 4 oclock weather report from temecula. Check back on this thread early in the morning for any last minute updates, although it looks pretty good right now.

Just spoke with Mark (91X) and the roads are dry, with some very, very light clouds!!! No sign of rain or anything to hamper the drive
I'll give everyone a quick call, to make sure you don't oversleep..........

Yep, dry here on the coast too. Cool. See you in a few. Everyone, don't forget to bring a charged radio.

I don't know how much fun you AZ guys had today, but we had loads of fun in SoCal. Scott, with the help of Troy and John (and anyone else?) got us on to some great roads and highways. In spite of the gray weather, we really lucked out on the lack of traffic throughout much of the drive.

It amazes me how ENJOYABLE a drive event can be when it is well thought out. Preparation is the key, and those guys really know how to do it. Pre-event test drives, maps, and requiring the use of V1s and correct radios pretty much ensures a great event. Well, at least when these guys are running it, I suppose. :D

Thanks again guys. I had a great time. I'm almost looking forward to next year's Tax time. (Well, maybe not. :D)

BTW, I started a PICTURE thread in the Gallery Forum. You can find it HERE.

The diversity of terrain was fantastic! Forests, deserts, pastures; fog, sunshine, clouds, drizzle; and it was all twisty. If I can figure this out correctly :)smile: ) here are some pictures:

First, I want to thank Scott and Linda (for supporting Scott ) and Troy for helping out with the maps/food (you drive around aimlessly way too much).

My timeline/details:
4:20am - Talk to Mark (91X) to see how the weather is. He just got off work and was already up. He's a dealer and has crazy hours! Not that kind of dealer! At a casino. And you were thinking?

4:25am - Log onto Prime and post Marks weather update, just in case other insomniacs might be up.

4:26am - Jump in the shower, since I can't sleep knowing I have 2hrs 24mins ahead of me just to get to the starting point.

5am - Release the garage door opener and push my car into the driveway, as not to wake the beauty sleepers. Reset odometer, start car and turn on my V1.

7:05am - Must have been driving fast, cause I'm pretty early. Fill up at Pechanga. SOB, gas is 3.59 a gallon here!!! Meet nsxnitro and chat while waiting for others to arrive.

8:40am - Depart for the drive!

Drive, drive and drive some more. Seems and though we went thru a few time zones and from the hills to the desert, we seem to have touched every sort of landscape. It seems all we missed was the ocean

Stumble accross this excellent Chinese food place in Idyllwild. Order family style plates. Perfect setting, nice meal and most of all, nice company!

3:28pm - Fill up in Banning and head for home. Caravan for awhile with most of the group. Yellowbeast and I continue together until the 15fwy interchange.

6pm - Arrive at home in one piece and fairly tired. Still have some energy, so I wash the car. No chips or scratches. Everything checks out and I put her in the garage until next time!

6:01pm - Forgot to check the odometer (remember, I reset it before I left) Odometer shows 508.2 miles!!!!!
508 miles divided by 13 hours is an average of 39 mph

7pm - Log back onto Prime and check for new posts

Thanks everyone for attending both the original rained-out date and those that actually drove the route. It's the people who participate in the drives that make these things successful - not the organizer. Troy thanks for your help with the additional roads and finding the restaurant.
