The siren call has overcome. I have taken the plunge again...

After a hideous misadventure into supercharging (with a brand which will remain nameless but has been oft pilloried here) I am now the proud possessor of the USA's lowest milage, fresh-from-the-shrink-wrap 3.2 liter engine... about 4k break-in miles. All wonderful. Thank you Shane at Autowave for finding the last virgin in America.

Note to self: Round OEM cylinder bores good. Oval cylinder re-bores bad.... Round OEM cylinder bores good. Oval cylinder re-bores bad....

Anyway, with mechanical mis-alignments and monstrosities now a thing of the past, I am proceeding to Phase Two: CT Supercharger.

The car: 1996 NSX-T
The engine: 3.2 liter with above miles, replacing 3.0
The gears: 5 speed JDM "shorties"
FI: CT Supercharger, 2.3L
Fuel Management: latest AEM, tuned by DynoMike; new Walbro fuel pump + rails
AIT Management: Laminova Intercooler from ScienceOfSpeed.
Instrumentation: AEM Air/Fuel gauge + AEM 19-way gauge.
Bearing in mind that the commandment issued to AutoWave is "bullet-proof, bullet-proof, bullet-proof", let the thread begin...

Comments? Advice? Anything reasonable missing? Go ahead -- spend my money.

Clutch?
By AEM, I am assuming FIC or did you change to throttle by cable.

Wow and I thought the bee was the only 96 with a 3.2L engine:cool:

Have you looked at the DashDaq, if you run OBDII you can monitor fuel trims on the fly, If you go AEM standalone you can monitor any of the AEM ECU data streams at once not just one, and you can connect up any AFR sensor as well as many others, one other plus is you can get GPS Navigation from the gauge as well. Just a thaught.

This is the setup I am running in my '04

Is the SC already done? Any dynos yet? My 2.3L blower w/ 3.0L (92' NSX) was tuned by the great guys at Autowave. It runs well. Good luck and have fun.

Sorry no dynos... yet. Car was delivered to AutoWave last week, CT blower arrived Monday, along with Laminova intercooler on Tuesday.

As the car just went up on the lift, I am forced to sit here and drum my fingers. Hence this obsessive thread.

In terms of performance goals, "bulletproof, OEM-like" overrides any target number for the moment. Given an exceedingly healthy 3.2, the big blower, CT header and exhaust, plus an intercooler, Mike and Shane are confident in @ 400rwhp with low AIT's.

We'll see what this combination yields. Those with equivalent setups are encouraged to pipe up their dyno numbers.

Working with Titanium Dave to put his motor in my 95.

2.3l aftercooled whipple, 3.0 low comp motor, Vipec EMS - DBW but with a different TB (still working on this) + meth.

Should be good for 450+ I would think.

Also running the 4.23 + short gears FWIW

Shane was kind / cruel enough to pass me some pictures of the freshly installed 2.3 blower and Laminova intercooler. Also on board, new Walbro fuel pump and Viper-sized injectors. (Elegant work on the hoses by the way, Mike.)

Now for the critical, why-we-all-go-to-Autowave part... tuning... and more tuning... and more....

Unfortunately all this waiting is depleting my small, hard-won, reserves of maturity. I want my toy. Now.

I don't have much to add to this thread other that:

1. That's a great looking set-up, and

2. I was impressed to see the word "pilloried" used on Prime.

You have to go way back to find another example.

I didn't want to say it but have to agree, very nice looking.

Why is it that everyone else has a pristine engine bay, interior, etc?

Oh yeah, I drive my car in the rain, eat Taco Bell in it and have the floorboards decorated with cheerios by a 4yr old.

Got the heat exchanger mounted over the weekend, the coolant reservoir, the meth pump, now need to pull the stupid fuel tank to put in a pump.

Should be on track for completion in 2012, hopefully will get one nice weekend to drive it before the end of the world.

Update: Shane called, and advised me that he and Mike have also added a high-horsepower harmonic balancer to the mix, for durability. (see http://www.nsxprime.com/forums/showthread.php?t=132194)

Where most shops try to sell you things you don't need, Autowave takes its time, looks at your engine compartment and advises you to spend the extra money on the things you do. Unsexy things that won't be noticed for 20,000 miles.

I think it's called good service.

With such a proprietary interest in my engine, I'm glad that they'll allow me to drive it.

Under the category of Little Things Along The Way...

Fixing the small A/C freon leak in an NSX is easy... First you remove the seats -- both of them... Then you remove the center console -- all of it... Then you remove the instrument cluster. Then you unscrew the dashboard -- all of it... Then you unscrew three little, tiny screws; hence you replace the evaporator... then you rewind all the above, save the little screws part.

Shane -- cackling -- just had to send me this picture. Evidently he supports massive heart attacks and/or fainting in his clientele.

A 2.3L should put down a good bit more than 400whp. I put down 390whp with a 1.7L CTSC and the Laminova+hiflo cats, headers and exhaust. You should be around 450whp I would guess. It depends on the tune of course.

I had tuned my 3.2L 2.3L whipple to 475WHP before changing over to the Whipple 2.9L The only reason I went to the 2.9L was because I had a head gasket leak and had to pull the motor anyway. I just installed the SOS clutch also. I should get the car back next week.

475rwhp @ 2.3 liter --> Whipple 2.9 liter!!! Holy cow Sampson, thou shalt be aptly named.

I should get the car back next week.

I'm sure you're looking forward to it. Funny psychological observance: There are weeks when I prefer to drive my Boxster, top down, and simply leave the NSX parked in the garage, somnolent. No problem.

Take my NSX away for the same amount of time, and all of a sudden I'm jones'ing; calling Shane for updates, drumming my fingers, hanging around behind the gymnasium trying to score a hit off someone else's NSX.

And I'm driving a Porsche for God's sake's, a Porsche convertible!

What does this mean? Is there a 12-step program I should be attending somewhere? And this is before my first big hit on the CT/intercooler Go-Fast Pipe...

So there's this gas gauge see, and it doesn't report a linear accurate consumption, see. So I get it replaced, see. And the replacement is shipped...

By boat. From Japan.

Truly, has no one at Honda heard about 2nd Day Air? Why does it need a container and a 400-ton crane to send my 3-ounce gauge to America?

Thus lies my horse: http://www.nsxprime.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=69456&d=1279250083 until August.

For want of a nail the shoe was lost.
For want of a shoe the horse was lost.
For want of a horse the rider was lost.
For want of a rider the battle was lost.
For want of a battle the kingdom was lost.
And all for the want of a horseshoe nail.

I have lost all marginal reserves of adult patience. I am now on drugs and liquor to dull the ache.

Dear Diary: About 30 days in now and I have hit a new nadir... Pathetically last night I dreamt of driving an NSX.

As Freud would decipher, I am expressing a sublimated fantasy. The problem is, if I own one, how can it be a fantasy? It's already atavistic.

Shane called with an update: 390rwhp at 9lbs boost with very low IAT's. According to Mike, the car "really goes"; the dilemma now... stopping it. After talking to my wheel guy, as well as Josh Jacob, and Shane I have now pulled the trigger on a Brembo Gran Turismo package -- front, rear and e-brake. Ouch.

Evidently, everybody considers stopping somewhat important. I'll agree... in theory.

Why did no one warn me of the dual-diagnosis co-addiction to The Go-Fast Pipe -- the Go-Slow-Quickly Pipe?

Members on this list have failed me.

The warnings were there, like most addicts you will have to hit bottom before you seek help for your addiction.

Enjoy your new found power.

Dave

Update: Spoke with Shane this morning. Brembo Gran Turismo kit on order. Evidently "they" have a full rear and e-brake setup, but have to fabricate a new front system.

Another two weeks...

This is getting Old Testament -- a veritable biblical, Job-ian test of character. How much longer in this desert, Oh Lord? How many more boils?

My question? How important is stopping the front of the car? After all it's attached to the rear. It's not like NSX's stretch like Wiley Coyote, do they? Couldn't I just brake twice as hard with the rears?

You might want to contact ACME, their anvils would provide all the stopping power you need.

I have already dealt with ACME. They were the purveyors of the aforementioned supercharger and low-comp build.

Not quite KABOOOOM!!!!! but nearly there.

Suffice it to say that I feel for Wiley Coyote... having shared carboniferous smoke, detonations, and being unfairly outraced.

For those out there keeping up with my Sysiphian agonies (one part installed, another part ordered), Shane has -- cackling -- once again reached out to torment me.

Brake porn... as if I knew something like this existed.

I am filled with unrequited lust... staring at pictures that I hide from my wife... daring not speak of my urges. Virginal Brembo Gran Turismo's, front and back, in naked, flawless glory.

Shane and I, of course, text'ed sophomorically about bedding the pads.

I have sunk so low, dear Lord... so low.
